Wolf Valley Saga: Coming Home

Chapter:9

That night I dream of Rane. I dreamed that we had a handful of kids. The next morning I wake up and go take a shower and get ready to go to work. My ride-along partner is James. He is my age and damn he has a body on him. We get a call for the Carter Ranch. We head there and arrive a few minutes before the fire department. They had some wolf pups in their garage when the car caught on fire. James talks to Miss Carter. He flirts more than actually talking if I'm honest. I walk to the back of the fire truck. Rane is sitting there. I look down to see that his hands are burnt. He scorched them getting the pups out from behind the car.

"Oh my god, Rane! Are you okay?"

"Yeah, it is nothing. "

"Let me bandage it for you."

"No, V. I am okay. I can do it myself." He pushes me away  with his good hand and drops the gauze.

"How can you be so nice and sweet one minute, but total opposite the next? Now I am wrapping your hands and you are gonna sit here and be thankful. Got it?" 

"No. Go. James with the hot body needs you, V." He yanks the gauze out of my hand. 

James yells, "Let's go Kendra." I turn and quickly walk off .We head back to the office.It is quitting time and I don't work the whole weekend. When I get home I decide to walk up to Rane's house. 

I take it slow and so I don't collapse again. When I get on his porch I knock on the door. 

"Hey, V. Come on in,"Dane says.

 "Where is Rane?"I ask.

"He is in the living room with our dad."

I walk into the living room. His dad starts cussing and being mean and starts yelling at Rane.

"This is not your whore house boy. Stop having girls come over here all hours of the night." 

Rane grabs my arm. "You gotta go, V. Now go home and don't come back." He pulls me to the door and outside. "What the fuck are you doing here, V?" He releases my arm.

"Really, Rane? Are you fucking kidding me? I came here to check on you. Excuse me for fucking caring. Next time you feel my pain, just forget about it. I don't need you babysitting me. I can deal with my own pain." He tries to grab my arm but I move away from him.

"V, I have told you from the beginning that it is Hailey I want to be with." I stomp off and head home.

 I get the journal out and drive to the watering hole so I can read it. I sit with my feet in the water  and open my moms diary. I start reading and after a few paragraphs I throw it. My mom cheated on my dad. I start crying. That's why he didn't want me reading it. I pick it up and start reading more. I couldn't believe what I was reading. She had a baby girl right before she had me and she gave her up for adoption. I start crying harder. How could she do that to Pops? He loved her so much. That's why all these years he never moved on. Terry is the only relationship I have ever known him to have since her death. My heart breaks but I have a sister out there. I lay there crying. She lied to me all those years and dad did too. I start getting a pain in my side so I get back to my car. That's when a real bad pain struck me. I hit the auto lock on my doors. I climb in the back seat and double over from pain. Next thing I know, Rane is pecking at the window.

"V, unlock the door now!"

"No. Go away! I can do this on my own. Go find Hailey. She needs you," I scream out through the window. The pain goes on for ten hours and then finally I change. I just sit there whimpering and wanting out of the car. I scratch at the door and about an hour later I change back. I am naked and my clothes are ripped to pieces. I climb up to the front seat and start the car. Rane stands up beside my window holding some of my clothes. I am mortified. I open the door and grab my clothes.
