"Ashton, what's happening?" I whispered.

He stared at me for a long time.

He blinked quickly as though he was trying to figure something out.

"Laura." he whispered.

"Yeah it's me." I said quietly.

"What happened?" he asked me.

I could hear in his voice that he was terrified of my answer.

"I don't know." I admitted.

"Did I hurt you?" he asked nervously.

I shook my head. He quickly pulled me into his arms and held me tightly.

"I am so sorry." he whispered, his voice cracking slightly.

"It's okay." I whispered as I wrapped my arms around his neck and gently stroked his hair.

"I don't know what happened." he said sadly.

"Me neither, I guess you just lost your temper." I said gently.

"But I could have hurt you or Evie." he said as he quickly stepped away from me.

I watched him closely.

"Please tell me I didn't hurt Evie?" he asked nervously.

"Well you smacked her." I told him.

I saw the anguish on his face as I said those words.

"But she was misbehaving." I quickly added.

"That's no excuse." he exclaimed.

"Maybe we should go the doctors, get you checked out." I suggested.

He nodded at me and left the room.

"Where are you going?" I called after him.

"I have to apologise to Evie." he said sadly as he walked away.
