Your Pov:

I awoke to find my wrists and ankles bound with thick rope. I spotted Trilby splayed on the stump, blood leaking from his wound. Lenkmann stood in front of the stump. I shouted, "You arrogant bastard!" He looked at me, "You're awake. Seeing as how you're the soul, I want the guide to be awake to see me destroy you." Trilby groaned from the stump. Lenkmann turned back to him, "Oh good, you're awake. I was afraid you'd miss this."

Trilby's voice was shaky as he spoke, "What...are you doing?" Lenkmann chuckled, "After your staggering ineptitude in DeFoe Manor, the order needed to nudge things along. We need a connection to Chzo to help administrate his coming. And today might be the only opportunity we have all year to summon the Tall Man." Trilby coughed, "You're going to...bring that...THING...into our world?" Lenkmann nodded.

"With a standard ritual of Blessed Agonies, and an offering. After he takes your life, he will be grateful to us. And then he will guide us to our destiny." Trilby winced, "So why did you...STAB me? What if I'm already dead...by the time he gets here?" Lenkmann scoffed, "You won't be. Men like you, Trilby, die on their own terms. They don't weakly let their life slip away from one measly knife wound. Hush now. Cabadath is coming." Trilby called out to me.

"(Y/n)! Are you there?" Lenkmann chuckled, "She's here. Oh, that reminds me." Lenkmann dragged me to where Trilby could see me. My dress was torn in some places and my stockings were also ripped. Lenkmann spoke, "She will serve well as a wife to our head acolyte, Garriott. Her bloodline makes her a descendant of both the Tall Man and Frehorn. Which means her offspring will be just as powerful if not more."

I felt his hand trace my collarbone. Trilby spoke, "Let her go! She has nothing to do with this!" Lenkmann ignored him and started the ritual, "I call thee, Cabadath, to the wood that is your soul. I call thee from the north." The idol was also on the stump. The ritual continued and the Tall Man began to appear at the foot of the stump. I struggled as I noticed Trilby's chest stop rising for longer and longer periods of time.

He was dying.

There was a flash and then, the Tall Man appeared. Trilby's breathing had stopped all together. The Tall Man walked into the stump. He examined Trilby's body before looking towards Lenkmann. Lenkmann froze, "What? He's dead? No, that's not possible!" The Tall Man stalked towards him. Lenkmann shook, "Master? Master, please, no!" I closed my eyes and a squish echoed in the cave.

When I opened my eyes, it was only Trilby and I. I called out, "Siobahn! Siobahn! We need help!" There was the sound of footsteps, then Siobahn entered the cave. She untied me and we started tending to Trilby's wound. After covering the wound and putting pressure on it, he opened his eyes a few moments later. I smiled, "Trilby!" I heard Siobhan behind me, "Say something!" He muttered, "What?"

I sighed in relief, "You're alive! We didn't even know if we were doing it properly! But we did it! You're alive!" Siobahn called for an ambulance and after wrapping up the idol, we got Trilby upstairs. An ambulance and STP clean up crew arrived. The three of us were taken to the hospital.

Trilby was rushed into surgery and the two of us waited in the waiting room. Siobhan turned to me, "So were the two of you really married?" I shook my head, "No, but we're a couple. We're the only things we have left." She smiled, "Well, I think he'll pull through. So don't worry." A few hours later, Trilby was put into a private room. Bandages were wrapped around his stitched torso but otherwise, he seemed fine.

My leg injury was fine and a few days later, Trilby was discharged from the hospital. The ministry discharged both of us from work until we both healed completely, but allowed us to write our reports on the incident. Siobahn signed the Official Secrets Act and she went to stay with her parents, but she gave me her number so we could stay in contact.

I closed off my report.

'And the events that have transpired are a means to an end.'
