Your Pov:

The boat ride would be overnight. Trilby and I sat in our room, getting our things together for tomorrow. I walked towards the bathroom, "I'm going to shower." He nodded, putting his folder aside, "Alright. I'll join you soon." I went into the bathroom and set my clothes on the sink. I closed the door until it was open a crack. I turned on the water and started to undress. I turned and paused.

On my side was a very faint scar. I never told Trilby, but the night he got possessed, he attacked me. When he first saw it, I lied and said I got it during one of my thefts. He seemed to believe me. I got in the shower and sighed as the hot water cascaded down my skin. I heard the door open and close and clothes hitting the floor.

The shower curtain slid open and Trilby got in behind me. He wrapped his arms around my waist and I leaned back into his chest. We stood there in silence. I spoke, "I'm nervous." He kissed the side of my head, his hand tracing my scar, "I know. I am too, but all we can do is hope for the best." After that, we got out of the shower and put on our night clothes. We got into bed and turned out the lamp. Trilby rested his head on my chest and I smiled.

Trilby couldn't sleep unless I sang to him. I started to hum before I sang.

"Life ain't always beautiful. Sometimes it's just plain hard. Life can knock you down, it can break your heart..."

He closed his eyes as I ran my fingers through his hair. He relaxed as I continued the song.

"Life ain't always beautiful. You think you're on your way. And it's just a dead end road at the end of the day."

I let my head fall back on the pillow. I felt his breathing even out. I closed my eyes and relaxed.

"But the struggles make you stronger. And the changes make you wise. And happiness has it's own way of takin it's sweet time. No, life ain't always beautiful. Tears will fall sometimes. Life ain't always beautiful. But it's a beautiful ride..."

I fell asleep. Luckily, I had no nightmares that night. I woke up the next morning, an hour before we docked. Trilby was awake and dressed, reading through the folder. I sat up, "Morning..." He looked at me, "Good morning love. We'll be docking soon. Get dressed." I got out of bed and got dressed. I slipped on my dress. Then, I put on my stockings and garter. I put my hair up in a bun and slipped on my flats. 30 minutes later we docked on the island.

We kept our room reserved for the ride back. We walked to the hotel. The forest was eerily quiet. The hotel was quite large on the outside. A man stood outside. He wore a grey anorak and was balding. Were we supposed to know who he was? He approached.

"You're Trilby and (Y/n), right?" Trilby stood in front of me slightly, "That depends." The man spoke, "My name is Lenkmann. I'm with the ministry of occultism." Trilby frowned, "Oh? I thought the ministry were clear on the fact that we were handling this on our own." Lenkmann shrugged, "Maybe there are still people who don't trust you two, Mr. Trilby."

Lenkmann looked at me, "No offense, Ms. (L/n)." I stayed quiet. Trilby scoffed, "We haven't stolen anything since we joined the STP!" Lenkmann sighed, "Your colorful pasts are not what concerns my superiors. It hasn't gone unnoticed that your history, Mr. Trilby, with the DeFoe wraith influences you psychologically. I'm sure you resist it, but it could still cause you to act irrationally, disobey orders...Everyone just feels a little safer with someone else on the ground." Trilby nodded.

"I see. You can rest assured that I will endeavour to maintain absolute professionalism on this assignment." Lenkmann nodded, "Nevertheless, I have my orders. I'm sure I don't want to get mixed up in a reunion." After that he disappeared around the building. I looked at the hotel doors, then at Trilby, "Let's get this done."
