"Could you drive me home?"

Jeno averted his eyes from his locker before setting them on the frail figure that stopped next to him. She was looking up at his face, arms folded in front of her chest with the sleeves of the large hoodie cocooning her, creating sweater paws.

"Yeah, sure." He nodded, closing his locker before placing his palm on her lower back as he lead her outside to the parking lot. "Jisung's going with us, we'll drop him off first."

"Okay." She acknowledged quietly, feeling bad for asking him, Chenle or Renjun to give her a ride for the past week and a half.

Maya felt like a burden- even with the constant reassuring of them saying they don't mind at all, it still felt shameful.

The light breeze broke through her hair as she walked, setting her eyes on yet another boy that waited by his car.

"Hey," Jaemin smiled, wrapping his arms around her and pressing a small kiss on her cheek. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm fine." She deadpanned, smiling into his shirt and closing her eyes. "You smell expensive."

The statement made the blond boy let out a chuckle and he leaned away to set his eyes on her face. "Well I mean, this is Boss after all." He proceeded to send a smug expression while reffering to his favourite cologne.

Maya smiled up at him before settling in the back seat of Jeno's car, waving him goodbye before her usual solemn expresson became visible once more with a bored look gazing out the window.

A sudden noise of something toppling over to the floor made the girl perk up in confusion, eyebrows drawing together as she froze to listen. Cuddled up in bed, as it became a routine in the past days, Maya sighed out as she moved her gaze towards the flat surface of the door.

There was silence for a while, before the soft footfalls echoed through the walls and another door closed shut- meaning only one thing. He was back.

"Hyuck." Maya breathed out softly, removing the white covers off her body before tiptoeing to the hallway, fear of facing him striking through her body just as much as exhilaration.

Nothing.

Because of his avoidance she probably wouldn't run into him anytime soon and she truly wanted to go in there and see him. It was only a matter of courage and the right words to say, but to say the least; she didn't have neither.

So many thoughts passed through her brain as the girl stood a few feet away from his room but the actual conversation starter to make him forgive her didn't seem to show up.

Empty.

That's how she felt, physically and emotionally. It was all too much to handle.

A few silent moments passed, the realization of knowing he wasn't about to come back out anytime soon triggered her emotions. The girl wanted to explain what she wanted but she couldn't find the right words. With her shoulders hanging low, she walked back to her bed, waiting for another few hours before the boy showed up in the kitchen again.

And she took the chance, walking to his side.

"Hyuck," She called hesitantly, being ignored by the boy who had his back turned to her. He only turned when a cup sat between his fingers, eyes flickering up to her momentarily before setting down on the counter.

"I miss you." Maya spoke quietly, searching for his avoidant eyes with hope glimmering at the back of her mind. "I miss us."

"Us?" Donghyuck laughed humourlessly, shaking his head without looking up from the cup filled with coffee, a teaspoon gently held between his fingers as he stirred the hot liquid.

"Maya, I'm not here for you." He spoke monotonely, no particular emotion latching on his face as he watched her with tired eyes. "I'm here because of Chenle."

She didn't know what hurt most. The fact that he had called her by the name or because he was convinced to come here. Either way, it was clear he didn't want any interraction.

"Goodnight." He said, leaving back to his room without sparing her a glance while walking past and once again, the girl was alone.

She leaned onto the counter with her palms, head hung low as the tears flew out of her eyes like hot waterfalls. The tightening in her chest was becoming nearly unbearable.

It hurt so much because it was real.

It  was impossible to escape the shadow of his presence. He was so close yet she couldn't touch him, kiss him. Only memories stayed- the long stored images of his beautiful smile, his touches.

Memories kill.

It felt like death.

Death of something so divine bloming between them, connecting them with such adoration both held for each other- and suddenly being tucked deep under the ground.

So enticing but so repulsive at the same time. Hesitation with every word and movement and the heartbreak was a never ending burden about which she kept on thinking of.

It wasn't any different with Donghyuck as to him breaking out into silent sobs as soon as the doors to his room closed shut. Back sliding down on it, his face got buried in the palms of his hands, fingers tugging on the ends of his disheveled hair while his shoulders shook.

He couldn't take it.

The desperation and need of having her beside him weighted on his heart but he couldn't walk back out to make it true.

The night slowly fell into an endless string of fractured sleep, both halves too far to reach each other, stubborness and wrong decisions blowing them apart.
