Even now, as a daimyo, Ryogetsu still felt powerless. Try as he might, his brother would not be returned to him. The Akano clan firmly resisted. They denied any accusations Ryogetsu threw at them, according to their narrative, Jinshiro of Naguchi had never been in Echigo.
As the weeks passed Ryogetsu developed a deep loathing for the Red Clan. It was their fault, really. All they had to do was return his brother, but still they denied his presence in their captivity.
After having rejected Ryogetsu of Naguchi for the umpteenth time, Katsu of Akano decided he had to speak to his sons.
As he waited, he paced with his hands folded behind his back. Two sons entered. He looked at them, "Where is Yuuki?"
Naozumi twirled a lock of hair between his fingers. "I do not know." Naozumi giggled.
Katsu's countenance filled with disdain. Seeing his father's expression made Naozumi silent. He turned his eyes down. The playful smile had gone from his face. The twins sat down in front of Katsu.
Yuuki entered the tearoom soon after. He bowed his head to Katsu, "Forgive me, Father."
Katsu shook his head. "No matter."
Once Yuuki had taken his seat, Katsu addressed his three sons, "If Ryogetsu of Naguchi happens to approach you, avoid him. If he catches you, lie, do not let him find out about the experiments," as he said this, he kept his eyes trained on Daisaku. "Are we in agreement?"
"Of course, Father," Daisaku agreed.
Naozumi touched his chin. "Father, I must worry about our precious younger brother. If you can recall, he and Ryogetsu of Naguchi are the closest of friends. We cannot be sure of where his loyalties lie."
Yuuki chewed his bottom lip. "That was two years ago, brother," Yuuki said, eyes on his father. "I doubt he remembers that time."
"No matter," Katsu sighed. "I will take my leave now."
Once Katsu and his attendants had left, Naozumi glanced over the table. Though the other teacups were already empty, Yuuki's teacup had been left untouched. A smile crept onto Naozumi's lips. "Yuuki," he called in a singsong voice. He crept closer. Yuuki's body grew tense. "I see you have not touched the tea Father has so graciously provided us."
Yuuki swallowed. He could feel Naozumi's body heat near him. His fingers gripped the edge of the table. "I will drink it," he said, panicked.
The smile on Naozumi's lips widened, "Of course you will."
Yuuki's jaw was seized, the grip was rough. His mouth was forced open. Naozumi grabbed the teacup and forced the hot tea down Yuuki's throat, spilling most of the tea onto Yuuki's clothes. The servants did not react, fearing Naozumi's wrath. Yuuki coughed.
Naozumi's laughter echoed through the tearoom. "Hahaha— Ow!" Daisaku had thrown his empty teacup against Naozumi's back, hard. "What was that for?"
"You know what it was for," Daisaku sneered. His eyes shifted away from Naozumi, meeting Yuuki's gaze. His face softened. "Go clean yourself up."
