Searching for love

I grabbed my phone from my nightstand after a quick shower and saw a good morning text from Axel. I replied back with a good morning and nervously checked my email for any updates on the job interview. My stomach sank when I saw none. Maybe it wasn't gonna be a good morning after all. I nervously chugged on my coffee as thoughts of what I would do if I didn't get the job swirled in my mind. I couldn't go on without a job for much longer. How long could I depend on my dad and be unemployed? If I didn't get this job I would have to do a secretary kind of job or move out. The coffee which I was savoring turned bitter in my mouth at these thoughts. My phone ringtone burst through loudly shaking me out of my stupor. It was an unrecognized number. I quickly picked up, "Hello this is Layla". "Layla! This is Hunter. Congratulations! The job is yours if you want it!", he chuckled and I jumped up and down and said, "Thank you! Of course, I would love to accept the job!", I grinned as I said that. Yay! I was literally screaming inside. He laughed and said, "If you're free tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. I can go over the job description, salary, and expectations. Sounds good?"

As soon as I ended the call with Hunter, my new boss, I screeched and jumped around crazily. I rushed to call my dad and was a little disappointed to hear it go straight to voicemail. He was a busy man though, so it was only expected. I wanted him to be the first to hear about it, so I resisted the urge to call my friends. After a few minutes, I decided to call Eren to find out about the whereabouts of my father. Dad had actually given me his number for emergency reasons. Apparently he was dad's emergency contact. I was very nervous about talking to Eren on the phone but I was much too excited and wanted to relay the news to my dad as soon as possible. With shaking hands I dialed in Eren's number and waited for him to pick up, it was just about to go to voicemail when he picked up. "This is Eren Stark", he said in a deep voice that sent chills down my spines. "Hey, Eren! This is Layla, is dad around?"I asked, my voice hesitant and uncertain. "Is everything okay?" he asked immediately his voice rushed. I shook my head and replied, "No, it's nothing like that. I just wanted to talk to him about something". His voice low and cool he said, "He's in a meeting right now, but I'll let him know that you called. He'll be sure to give you a call immediately and I'm glad to hear you're okay". I felt warm at his words and replied, "Thanks Eren, and I'm sorry for all the trouble. I know you're busy".

"Never. Hesitate. To. call. Me. Understand. EVen if it's just to pass a message to your father or anything at all. Give me a call". His voice was brisque and firm but to me, his words were almost equivalent to a romantic confession. My heart was at the point of bursting and I struggled to keep my voice light and laughed softly and said, "I'll keep that in mind but don't be annoyed when i'll be calling you every minute of the day". "I highly doubt I'll be annoyed by your constant calls. They'll be a nice change of pace". I giggled and said, "So what do you want for dinner today?"

I danced and sang along to the music as I chopped up some garlic.I was preparing some Chicken Tetrazzini as per Eren's request. In the one week I stayed home he had come over most days for dinner or even lunch and breakfast sometimes. I wanted to ask dad more about his connection with Eren and gain some juicy gossip on him as well. I looked at my phone awiting a phone call from dad but still nothing. As I happily worked in the kitchen my mood light and feeling accomplished I cooked up the dish in no time. Just as I was putting on some finishing touches my phone rang and I ran to my phone. Seeing my dad's name listed I excitedly picked up and screeched, "Dad! I got the job!", the other side was silent for a second and I could hear some quick shuffling movements and what seemed like a door banging and then, "I am so proud of you! Congratulations!", my dad screamed with equal enthusiasm. I laughed out loud at his excitement. He had obviously found a quiet place to show all of his enthusiasm and that made me extremely happy. "Thanks dad!", I said happily. "We need to celebrate! How about dinner today?", he said. Oops, I thought and said, "Um dad I already made dinner. Eren's coming over, right? Maybe tomorrow? I still haven't told my friends so maybe we can have a party with all of us". I heard some muffled sounds and quick movement and my dad said, "Sounds good! I'll talk to you later gotta go! Love you and congrats!", with that my dad cut the call. Immediately I texted Serena, Rose and Alex with the good news and luckily Serena and Rose were both free and we had a group facetime freakout together. Overall, I laughed and felt more satisfied than ever before which was a common theme in my life right now. I just hoped it would last forever.
