Max didn't know what time it was, but if he had to take a guess, he would say it's about three in the morning. So it had been, maybe, six hours since everybody in the car had fallen asleep.
Or, in his case, six hours since he's gotten not even one wink of sleep.
From the moment he had tried slipping into dreamland, Goofy and Bigfoot both started to snore as loud as possible.
He's heard his father snore before. His snore plus the snoring of an eight foot harry beast? That was just pure torture.
He had tried falling asleep for four hours, and then finally decided to just give up. Now he was just staring at his father with wide eyes, and his eyes were starting to hurt a bit. With nothing to do, he sat up, and looked into the back of the car, where his best friend was, despite all the snoring, peacefully sleeping, her chest rising and falling with each soft breath she took.
At least she's getting some sleep. Max thought. He sat back down in his seat, and let out a sigh. He then takes out a Lester's Possum Park post card from his bag, flips it over, and then begins to write a note.
Dear Roxanne,
Couldn't sleep, so I thought I'd drop you a line. Dad, Nicole, and I are having a great time. We're only days away from L.A. and I can hardly wait for the big concert.
He stops writing, a frown present on his face. He looks over at his dad when he starts to murmur in his sleep.
"More 'Hi Dad' soup, please." Goofy said.
A half smile appears on Max's face, and then he looks back down at the post card in his lap, and re-writes the note.
Dear Roxanne,
Sorry I lied, but I'm not really going to the Powerline concert. You may never want to see me again-
ACHOO!
Max jumps in surprise at the sudden sneeze, and looks into the back seat to see Nicole slightly sitting up, rubbing her noise.
"Bless you." Max says with a small smile.
Nicole blinks at him sleepily. "Thank y-" She is cut off by another sneeze, and then another. She let out a groan and rubbed her arms. Max looks at her in concern.
"Are you okay?"
She nods. "Yeah, I'm good. Just kind of cold I guess."
Makes sense. Max thought, noticing she was still wearing the same tank top and shorts she wore when she went for a swim. The clothes she had on before getting into the lake were in the back with her, but still...
She finds my clothes more comfortable anyway He thought with a lighthearted shake of his head. He dug through his bag until he pulled out a pair of shorts, and a white and light blue tank top with a number one on it.
"Here, these are dry." He said, holding the clothes out to her. Nicole shakes her head.
"No, those are your clothes. I'm fine."
"I don't mind. Besides, it's your favorite shirt."
She looks at the clothes again, and then reaches for the tank top.
"Fine. But I'm only taking the shirt."
Max raises an eyebrow. "Sure you don't want the shorts?" When she nods, he turns back to the front to give her some privacy. When the sound of clothes moving stops, he turns back around to see her laying back down, with the shirt on, and she had a smile on her face. "Better?"
