Her right hand traveled to my face, thumb brushing across my cheek. Our eyes locked as her fingers lingered, honest and gentle.

I gazed at her face, eyes roaming across her freckled cheeks, tinged pink from the heat of the day.

"Addison," she whispered.

"Dixie,"  I whispered back, leaning in to her touch.

Dixie's POV

Pause. She is so pretty. She's the prettiest person I've ever seen. Golden hair framing her face, falling gracefully across her shoulders—long and soft. Jawline to the Gods. Thick, perfectly sculpted eyebrows ascending long, luscious eyelashes. And her eyes. I could go on about her eyes. She had the cutest little button nose, which scrunched up with her cheeks when she smiled. Her cheeks—babyish and rosy, but cut with sharp cheekbones. And her lips...

Was she leaning in?

Was I  leaning in?

Long eyelashes fluttered, and my head felt light. Time was moving in slow motion.

I could feel her breath across my face. When had we gotten this close? A moment lingered. Our noses brushed—her lips exhaling air onto my own.

My eyes fell closed, her face radiating warmth onto mine.

This was the moment. In my bones, I could feel every part myself falling, slowly, losing grasp of any threshold, into the deep abyss.

Until.

"ADDISON ARE YOU OKAY?!?" Charli's voice screamed through the door.

Foot steps thumped loudly against the carpet, approaching the bathroom.

I sucked in my breath, moving my face backwards to stand upright. My mouth opened, unable to famthom the (absolute ridiculousness) of the situation.

I gaped at the floor, shoving my hands into my pockets.

"Addison!!"

Knocks hammered against the bathroom door, shaking away any lasting presence of the moment.

Still sitting on the counter, Addison twisted the doorknob, letting Charli topple over into the  small space.

"I heard what happened, with the fight, and Tayler said you were hurt," Charli gasped, clearly out of breath.

"....Oh, yeah, I mean... Everything's okay, I just have some scrapes and bruises."

"I can't believe it!! So you were part of the fight?! Please tell me you punched someone."

"Oh my God, Charli," I groaned, staring at the ceiling.

"Oh hi, Dixie, omg, I didn't even see you there. Where have you been?"

"We went to the carnival in Bel Air."

"What!! Why didn't you invite me, you bitch!"

"Shut up, Charli. Can you get out of here?" I asked exasperatedly.

Charli looked taken back, and then glanced around the room.

She paused, taking a good look at Addison. Then she paused again, taking a good look at me. I watched as a glint flashed across her eye.

A coy smile formed on her lips.

"Oh, I'm sorry, Dixie." She added emphasis to my name.

"I'll just uh—I'll get out of your hair," she said, smirking.

I glared at her with my eyes, telepathically saying "I literally hate you right now."

"I'll come too," Addison stated, hopping off the counter.

Charli grinned and started telling her detailed accounts of the fight that she had heard from Avani.

I shut the bathroom door closed and let out a deep sigh, my palms hitting the countertop as I slumped over. I crossed my arms, leaning against the counter for support.

Holy. Fucking. Shit.
