"Are you being serious right now? Keiji, I did so much to accept this one-sided love I have for you" she protested, still hesitant to believe him.

Mamoru spent years in the states trying hard to accept the fact that it's impossible to be together with Keiji. Her place beside him was only as a friend and nothing more.

During her 7 years stay there, she pushed herself to work hard. She wanted to at least take a bit of her mind off that fact. Mamoru tried dating a lot of guys there in the states but for some reason, they would end up breaking up with her because she seemed to be uninterested.

2 years before she came back, she contacted Konoha and met up with him. She wanted to have someone who understands and will be there to at least make her a bit happy. She apologized many times to him because she ended up rejecting him back then.

"Is it too late? Am I too late Mamoru?"

The brunette shook her head violently in protest. "Keiji I already accepted that a future where you and I end up together is just a dream. Why are you suddenly telling me this now?"

"I'm sorry I was too blind to see you who always stayed beside me. I was hung up on finding my ideal girl. I'm sorry Mamoru" Keiji sighed as he muttered an apology.

"Are you married now?" The ravenette asked again. "I'm sorry if I didn't ask first before confessing" he added.

Staring at his awkward figure as he fidgeted with his fingers, Mamoru wanted to slap herself awake. Is he telling the truth before? Does he really love her?

"I'm not married."

A glint of hope lit up in Keiji's eyes as he faced her again. "T-Then—I mean w-why?"

"Nobody seemed to accept the me who was still stuck loving you" the brunette replied.

Keiji looked so apologetic right now, his eyes falling down to his fidgeting hands. "I—I'm so sorry Maru. I was the reason you had a hard time yet here I am proclaiming that I love you." He sighed. "Let's go. I'll drop you home"

Dejectedly, Keiji stood up and started walking down the slide. As he turned his back and took another step, a familiar dirty blonde hair caught his eyes.

"Konoha-san"

"Oh Akaashi! How have you been!" The boy greeted casually, hands inside his pockets.

"What are you doing here?" Keiji asked.

His eyes widened even more seeing Mamoru's figure pass him by and stood beside Konoha. She had a smile on her face as she faced Konoha.

"You're late Konoha" she giggled.

The said boy placed a hand on top of her head and smiled widely, "Well I'm so sorry my future wife, I was busy at the company," said the boy.

Konoha's eyes diverted back to Keiji, "Thank you for taking care of Mamoru while I was at work"

"Future wife? You said future wife earlier?" Keiji muttered.

"Oh! Yes yes, we're getting married by the end of the year. Make sure you come, okay? We'll be handing out invitations next week" Konoha even added and pulled his fiancé closer to him.

The ravenette stood there speechless. And Mamoru felt all the more guilty but it was her decision. This is what made her happy. "Konoha. Please give us more time alone." She pleaded.

Konoha nodded, "Anything for you" he left after kissing Mamoru on the forehead.

The two ended up alone again after a few seconds and silence fell upon them. But Keiji decided to break the ice.

"So when you said you're not married...?"

"I was engaged Keiji."

"I'm too late huh?" said the ravenette.

Mamoru felt sorry for Keiji. But she already chose this. She chose Konoha. "He understood me, Keiji. He never urged me to do things I don't want to. Ever since I let him know where I am living, he would come over during important times of the years. When I was alone, he was a shoulder I learned to lean on.

Keiji, I love you. I always will. But I also learned to value myself even more. And now my happiness is next to him. You are always a part of me Keiji, don't forget that." Mamoru gave him one last look before she turned around and started walking ahead to meet with Konoha.

While Keiji stood there motionless, scoffing at his pathetic and stupid self.

As Mamoru approached Konoha who was leaning on his motorcycle, she couldn't help but run to his arms with tears falling from her eyes.

"So you finally said goodbye to your first love?" Konoha said as he cradled her shaking body in his embrace.

Mamoru only nodded. "Do you think you made the right choice?" Konoha asked again.

"What are you saying?" She replied, voice a bit muffled as she looked at him.

"Do you think picking me is the right choice? He confessed his love to you. You can always run back to his arms. I won't hold you back Mamoru—"

The brunette chuckled at his statement as she sniffed a few more times. "That selfless part of you is something I love Konoha. You make me happy. You were never a wrong choice."

The said boy wiped tears from the sides of his eyes as he engulfed the girl in a big hug again.

"Thank you Mamoru."

"No. Thank you Konoha."
