You look mad.
I am.
The older boy grumbled, glaring at his superman lunch box.
Why are you mad?
Harry asked his friend as he sat down next to him at the table.
My teacher gave me a D on a test.
Oh.
I don't know what to tell my mum.
Just tell her the truth.
But she'll be mad at me.
I don't think so.
The younger boy smiled sympathetically and put his hand on his grumpy friend's shoulder.
Could happen to anyone...
But not to you.
You're always... so smart. The older boy complained.
But...I'm two grades under you.
What you do is way harder.Still.
Harry looked at the older boy confused and pulled at the sleeves of his striped sweater. What was he trying to say by that?
Everyone gets bad grades once in a while.
Harry said, wanting to calm his friend.
Not you.
You're better at everything.
Even when you're younger. The younger boy went quiet and looked down to his lap.
It wasn't his fault when he was good at something and he also wasn't good at everything....M'not good at everything.
Harry spoke quietly and felt tears forming in his eyes, this being the first time that Louis wasn't nice to him. Where was the Louis who had all the answers to his questions, where was the Louis who always defended him?
...I'm not good at football, but you are.
That's something different!
The older boy said angrily, making Harry jump.
You can draw and dance and write poems.
You're always nice and everyone likes you.
That's not fair.
You can do what you want and get away with it.Harry sunk more into his seat and shut his eyes, not wanting the tears to fall.
...I don't do it on purpose.
I know.
Louis growled and stood up from his seat, wanting to go away.
...Don't you like me?
The young boy asked with a shaky voice.
Louis stopped in his track and felt the guilt rushing into him.
I-...I'm sorry.
I didn't mean any of it...He walked back to his friend, looking only at his feet as he heard Harry sniffling quietly.
You're great Harry.
I was just mad, ok?
It isn't your fault.Louis sat down next to Harry and patted his back softly.
Harry slowly looked up to him with red rimmed eyes.I really like you Harry.
What I said wasn't true, ok?Louis said softly, looking the younger boy straight in the eyes.
Friends?
Louis asked carefully and the younger boy nodded, sniffing with tears.
The older boy smiled and pulled Harry in for a hug. Harry wrapped his short arms around his friends torso and buried his face into Louis' chest.
You're my best friend, Harry.
Really, yeah?
Harry looked up from his chest surprised.
Really.
Louis nodded and tightened his grip onto the younger boy.
You're my best friend too.
Harry said and snuggled back into the older boy's chest.
-
All the fights I had with my best friend when we were younger, just bc we were immature little kiddos *sigh* those were the days...
