I played with my pen as I enjoyed the uncomfortable vibe of my mother. She's looking at me with a death glare and I know she will not back off any time soon.
"May I know what is the petition for?" I asked once again and my mom immediately answered.
"As you all know the board is concerned with how the chairman is not always visible in meetings. I believe Miss Grace is a very busy person that she can't handle her own affairs here in the firm. So I talked to the board and suggested to elect someone that is competent enough for the position."
"And who will be the next chairman if the petition pushed through? You?" I asked and she bit his lip as she looked at me. I can't describe how giddy I feel just by observing her reactions. "Miss Frida, need I remind you that the board has a say on who to appoint as the chairman given their shares in the company but talking to some while leaving the others behind is wrong."
"I did not leave them behind. In fact I issued the petition and gave them a month to at least think of it." she can even smile at me but I can smile wider.
"Really now? Okay." I nodded and got the copy of the petition from the envelope. "This is the copy of the petition you've released. I want everyone in this room to sign it if they are in favor and leave it blank if they are not."
"B-But I have the results right here-"
"I shall not honor that. I was not present when the voting has been casted. How can I know if the result is fair? How can I know if you didn't tweak some things for the result to be in your favor?"
"I will not lie and cover myself in mud for a mere position!" she defensively said and I sarcastically smiled.
"Exactly. Now let's vote again." I said in a very calm tone as I passed on the paper to my right but then I remember something. "Oh, before I forget, mister Suppasit is here with me as an investor. He will be joining us for the meeting. Mister Suppasit please take a sit."
"Will he also cast a vote sir?" one of the members said and I'm lucky I did a background check a few days go to know at least their face and names.
"Gulf I suggest you separate your personal relationship from work, don't you think?" my mom butted in and I threw her a glance before nodding.
"I already did Miss Frida. As I have said, mister Suppasit is here as an investor and just last week he signed the documents, investing fifty million baht in this firm. I also formed a partnership with his company for the construction of our projects because I noticed how the projects are being delayed for the past months and I don't want that."
"Gulf you can't do that! The contractor that we are in partnership with has been working with us for years!"
I tilt my head as I saw another flaw in her argument. I never thought you could ridicule someone just by listening to her baseless rants. "Correction: for three years. Didn't you personally terminated the previous one to form a contract with them? Am I right miss Grace?" I looked at her and she smiled before nodding. "See? If the contractor you got has been an efficient one then we wouldn't have this problem."
"But Gulf they are our partners!"
"And I say we severe ties with them as soon as possible. This is business and there is no room for any emotional attachment with our partners who are not doing their job right."
"This is ridiculous! You are just going to toss them away because you are the heir of Hilda!?"
"I am tossing them away because you got the firm the most incompetent contractor in Thailand, Miss Frida." I tore my eyes off her as I looked at the person whom I passed the paper to. "Let's proceed with the petition that you badly wanted. Sign it if you are in favor and pass it on if you are not."
