I WATCHED ROCHELLE DANCING in the center of the club her beautiful hair shaking about freely, she was the center of everyone's attention. She didn't seem to notice the hungry eyes of various men and women wanting to dance with her, she didn't seem to mind that she was the one that was dancing the most and singing loudly. Her smile was what was radiating the strongest. I haven't seen her smile like that in a while. She only smiles like that around dogs and when she is dancing. God was she a beautiful dancer, even though she was only 5 foot 5 she had these beautiful long naturally tan legs. The skinny jeans she was wearing was showed off her long legs and her firm butt, I remember when we were younger, I use to say she had a booty like a Brazilian. She would laugh awkwardly and shove me to the side telling me to shut up.
"Dean, you can't keep doing this to yourself." I heard Rae's calm voice say leaning against the bar that I have permanently made a perch at.
"Doing what, I don't know what you are talking about." I said looking over at her seeing her roll her eyes at me, Rae and I go way back we were childhood best friends. Everyone always said we would be the perfect couple. I shrugged it off but Rae always made it a point to be overly dramatic as if being my girlfriend would be the worst thing in the world.
"Dean she and I know how much you love her; she just isn't that into you. Please try to move on... We can all still be friends." She said taking a sip of her red bull infused trash can, its bright teal green liquid swirling through the ice in her glass.
"Of course, we can still be friends but I can't just give up on her, I am in love with her. . .. you wouldn't understand." I said annoyed as I saw Rae stop sipping her drink, she pulled her smooth dark purple painted lips into a sneer as she looked at me angrily.
"YEAH, I WOULDN'T KNOW, HOW COULD I POSSIBLY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT LOVE. RIGHT, IS THAT WHAT YOU ARE SAYING!" Rae yelled at me, I looked down at her flushed cheeks, she was adorable when she was tipsy. I shook my head in disagreement that wasn't what I meant at all. I placed my drink down on the bar and sat her on the bar stool forcing her to look at me.
Her eyes resembled the Caribbean blue waters, crisp and clear. So, clear you could see the reflection of yourself in them. Like a mirror she could spot any emotion and flaw. Those sea foam colored eyes that encompassed a water of familiarity were the windows into her soul. Yet every tendril of her eyes held a depth of color that was indescribable. Those light blue green eyes were calm like the warm ocean in the Caribbean but angry enough to cause a tidal wave. Sometimes I wondered if she knew the beauty that her upturned eyes were and if she truly appreciated them as much as I do.
Before I knew it, I felt myself being drawn in to her, was it the alcohol? I thought as she instinctively closed her eyes, I was meters away from her face when I heard Chelle's voice shout.
"Let go of me!" She said pushing some guy away. I got up and was about to go over then when I saw another man beat me to the punch. I watched the scene unfold before me angrily, the curly haired man was trying to force Chelle to dance, he wasn't taking the hint and she shoved him off of her. Her knight in shining armor came out of nowhere, he was like a shadow that appeared in the light, he moved smoothly and swiftly like a predator watching his prey. I couldn't compete with a Ricco suave man like that. I was about to walk over when I saw the other man cower and back off holding his arm. Wait, was that blood? I thought as I felt a shiver roll down my spine, this man.... something was off about him; I couldn't put my finger on it.
"Thank you for that. . . I'm sorry what was your name again?" She asked tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear looking up at him. He smiled smoothly at her and placed his fingers under her smoothly pointed chin and leaned down to her ear. I saw her cheeks flush to a light pink and her giggle softly to herself. She hasn't done that to anyone, not even to me. I stepped back not able to hear what the mysterious stranger said his name was.
"What is it about her, why do you love her and not me? You have known me longer but you can't see what is right next to you. Do you see what Chelle does?? She can have any man she wants. So why can't you just let your heart heal and leave your love for her behind?" Rae said her cheeks now a brighter red, I looked at the bar behind her she had two more empty cups behind her. She must have ordered more after seeing the display that Chelle and that stranger had. I sighed and shut my eyes, why couldn't I stop yearning for her, it's not like she is some ethereal Goddess or singing siren. Although Chelle had a beautiful singing voice, Rae was right, I could leave my love for her behind if I began something new. Right?
"Chelle doesn't love you Dean, she is a backstabbing bitch, she keeps playing with your heart." Rae spat as I heard heels clicking behind me coming to a stop. I turned recognizing the smell of coconut and guava, Chelle.
"Sooo that's how you really feel about me. Good to know." Chelle said bitterly walking gingerly to the bar catching the bartender's attention. She smiled and ordered and Adios mother fucker looking over at Rae who looked at Chelle blankly.
"Why aren't you screaming at me?" Rae asked sobering up relatively quickly, Chelle started laughing and pushed off the bar crossing her arms her face dropped to an emotionless one.
"Because I have heard way worse from far better people." She said as the bartender put her drink down. Chelle smiled at the bartender thanking him before returning to her expressionless face. She started walking away before she stopped in front of me.
"Don't worry Dean, you, Rae and I are still friends. I won't let one simple insult destroy a decade old relationship. That being said, I will take a taxi home." She said continuing to walk back on to the dance floor, her drink becoming her dance partner on the dance floor. Chelle has a wicked sense of sarcasm and I couldn't tell if she was being sarcastic or truthful with what she said to me. I looked over at Rae, her face holding the same confusion mine did.
I shook the uncertainty away and pulled Rae onto the dance floor she has had enough drinks to loosen up. I smiled pulling Rae against my chest her backside swaying in rhythm with mine, her body melting into mine like a perfectly fit puzzle piece. I let out a soft sigh as Rae's smooth cold hands ran down the sides of my ribcage down to my thighs. I shivered reacting to her touch, it was like everything was heightened, I have danced with Chelle many times and Rae a few but they have never felt like this. It was like I was hyper aware of every sensation, her fingers felt like velvet as she slid them down my neck to my groin.
I kept my hands on her hips trying to stay polite but god was she driving me crazy. Rae smirked as she began moving more vigorously to the music, I was losing my control and began dancing more aggressively. We weren't angry at each other, it was more like we had released all the tension that was built over the last few years, it felt right. Maybe the love I was yearning for wasn't really for Chelle after all.
The music switched from an upbeat song to a slow song, I felt Rae's arms slide up around my neck, her hands locking together behind me. I placed my hands more firmly on her hips swaying slowly from side to side, everything around me seemed to blur all I could focus on was her beautiful seafoam green eyes. Before I could stop myself, I was leaning down to press my warm lips against her smooth cool ones. I felt her hands caress the back of my head as I pulled her closer to my body. Her taste was intoxicatingly sweet. I feverishly kissed her. My good intentions flying out the window. Our lips were making a sweet crescendo as Rae nibbled on my bottom lip pulling it gently.
God why was she so seductive tonight, I need to stop before we get carried away. I pulled her hips away from mine and pressed my forehead against hers breathing heavily.
"I'm sorry. . . I didn't mean to, I 'm not thinking straight. I shouldn't have- "She started rambling but I cut her off by pressing my lips against hers softly and pulling away, her rambling completely stopping.
"It's okay, I wanted to. Rae. . . will you go out with me?" I asked nervously my eyes closing waiting for a response. I heard her sigh and pull her head away from me.
"Are you sure you want to date me, or are you just using me as a rebound because you know Rochelle won't." She said firmly looking into my eyes, I cupped her warm cheek in my hand and smiled.
"I want to date you Ralena Walker." I said receiving a kiss from Rae as we walked off the dance floor and to some couches in the back-right corner. After everything that happened tonight, I worked up an appetite.
