"Wakey, wakey girls. It's time for your awakening!" I heard Samael shout excitedly, I didn't move an inch, I simply stared at the loose piece of gravel that was a few millimeters from my feet. Rae and I didn't speak to each other after we exchanged those words. I sneered at the floor. If she hates me so much then she can go die in a hole somewhere, what do I care. I thought as Samael unlocked the cage and unshackled her.
"LET GO OF ME!" She screamed, thrashing her body around making Samael struggle to contain her. Glad to see she still has energy. Samael's face contorted to an angry one as he swung his fist into her stomach.
"DAD, stop!" I heard Dean yell as Rae yelped and doubled over in pain. I should be reacting but I felt nothing, I just watched the events unfold in front of me like a silent movie. How should I feel? Should I feel happy that I found out what happened to my father? Should I feel angry that someone who I considered a dear friend betrayed me? Should I feel sad that my best friend hates me?
I am broken. I thought to myself as I watched Samael drag her out of the cell.
"Grab her too, we need her to watch this." He ordered. Dean angrily walked toward me, his heavy feet pounding against the concrete, the echo of those steps resonated in my ears like a dull bell. Dean released my arms and legs from their shackles and yanked me to my feet.
"This is your fault, you brought her into this." He seethed; I tilted my head to the side my hair sticking to the side of my sweat covered face in confusion.
"You are right, it is all my fault that your father gave my father a book that had to kill half your people, its all my fault that YOU killed my father. And its all my fault that you got Ralena pregnant." I snapped back, obviously that struck a nerve because he grabbed the back of my head and shoved me face first into the wall. I started laughing as my cheek hit the cinderblock wall. The skin of my cheek scrapping across the wall roughly.
"Why the fuck are you laughing! Are you fucking stupid? DO NOT PUSH YOUR LUCK ROCHELLE." He yelled, which only made me laugh harder.
"Why does it matter, like you care what happens to me." I spat my laughter stopping I could feel his hand tighten around my skull before he dragged me out of the cell and into a large circular room. I let my hazel eyes travel around to take in my surroundings. The smell of dirt and blood filled the room. Something about this room seemed familiar, I looked at the copper colored dirt on the floor and the large cavernous walls. The walls appeared dark as they were watered down.
"Ahhh, does this look familiar to you little Rochelle? This is the little hole your daddy tried to run too but died before he could get to it. You see the funny thing about mine shafts; they are a labyrinth and can be easy to get lost in." Samael said pouting in mock sadness, I ground my teeth together in annoyance as I saw Rae was pushed onto her knees.
"Dean! My boy come over here and hold this girl still!" Dean hesitated momentarily before walking over to Rae and crouching behind her. His very presence and touch made Rae flinch. I watched him closely as he whispered something in her ear. Samael looked at me and turned my face to face the two of them.
"Get a good look at your best friend Rochelle, because this is the last time you will ever see her pretty face again."
"HA, go ahead and fucking kill her! I only look out for myself anyway, I don't give a shit what happens to her." I spat, I saw Rae's eyes widen and tears well up in her eyes as I used her own words. I am not a religious person but I prayed that Samael wouldn't call me on my bluff.
"Oh, sweet Chelle, if you hate her so much why don't you do the honors." He said handing me a large dagger. Its hilt had a beautiful draconic Celtic inlay that was dyed green, its curved edge delicately bowed into a bright emerald encased tip. I looked at the ancient weapon and looked at Dean's father.
