I LOOKED OVER AT CEREBUS who wagged his tail placing his head on my bed begging me to walk him. I smirked and sat up from my bed putting the book I was reading down on the nightstand. I looked over to see Rochelle peacefully asleep like she has been for the past two months. Whatever she went through did a number on her, she has been in and out of consciousness this entire time, occasionally we would have deep conversations before she would get exhausted and fall back asleep.
I did my best at keeping her active and fed but after these two months I feel like we could live like this forever. Apart of me longed to be with her forever and always but apart of me knows that this was wrong, what we were was wrong. She might as well be an insomniac with selective memory loss. I will be surprised if she even remembers any of what has happened over the last two months. I sighed to myself and sat up, I leaned over the bed and placed my lips against her smooth and warm forehead. She smiled in her slumber at me.
Her smile always made me reflexively smile back at her. Oh, how I loved her smile. Love, maybe I do love her, am I really some kind of cliché of love at first sight? I thought to myself as Cerebus barked excitedly at me.
"Shh" I scolded putting my index finger to my lips seeing Rochelle stir on the bed, the shirt I gave her riding up slightly up her thighs. I tried covering her with blankets but her temperature would increase and she would kick everything off. I went to the closet and pulled out some clothes that I bought her recently and placed them on the nightstand. I opened the door and slipped out quietly, Cerebus' nails clicking against the wood floors. I slipped on his harness and leash and walked out of the house locking it up and walking towards the car.
"Come on Cere lets go get some food." I said receiving a growl from him.
"Fine, fine we will go to the dog park first THEN food, deal?" I asked seeing his snarl return to a nonchalant one, I shook my head opening the back door, Cerebus' jumping in effortlessly. I chuckled to myself and hopped up front shutting the door and looked at the house. I gave a once over to see if anything was strange, satisfied I backed out and started heading to the dog park in town. I drove about 30 minutes into town and let Cerebus run free in the enclosed park, he happily ran from one side of the park to the other interacting with all the other dogs and smells in the area.
"Such a spaz." I whispered pulling out my phone seeing it was 6:55 p.m. I lost track of time, I whistled loudly for Cerebus seeing his ears perk up as he ran towards my side.
"Time to go home, we have to see what Rochelle would like to eat." I said opening the jeep for him to hop into. I took off his leash and harness so he could easily jump out and run inside once we were home. I rolled down the windows and enjoyed the crisp night air breeze driving back home.
The colors in the sky resembled a painting, the delicate hue of orange fading into purple created a beautiful gradient that slowly dissipated into the oncoming night. Maybe if Rochelle is up for it we could watch the stars tonight. I thought getting lost in my own thoughts. Before I could snap out of it Cerebus started growling viciously behind me. I looked up to see something move in a blur passed the car. I rolled up the windows quickly and shut off the lights. I recognized that smell: Executioners.
I pulled up slowly and shut off the car seeing various hounds casing the house, they didn't hear me yet. They must be after the journal I have to warn Rochelle. Shit her phone was on the counter in the kitchen. What if she isn't even awake. Fuck. I decided to text her anyway just in case she was up.
