It was close to the end of May. The flowers in the backyard were in full bloom around me as I sat in my favorite chair by the fountain. I had a hot cup of coffee in my hands as I closed my eyes and just listened to the water flowing next to me.
James has found his balance as a husband and as a business owner. He and Aiden no longer tend the bar on Friday nights. Instead, we use friday night as our date night. Sometimes we pair up for a double date with Aiden and Lacy. James works mornings now on weekdays, and is usually home by early afternoon.
Lacy and I have been working the past few months getting ready to launch our charity event business. We launch it on June 1st. It's only a little ways away. We are both super excited about it. We have a few events booked already.
I slowly opened my eyes and looked around our beautiful yard. A smile pulled across my face as I remembered the day James brought me here to 'see if we liked the house'. It looked like a place you go to on vacation. A place to forget reality.
I have these day dreams of our families all together, hanging out and having a barbeque. The guys by the grill having their man talk, while us girls sip our margaritas at the table gossiping. The kids running around the yard and in the pool, maybe chasing and playing with the dogs.
But that's all it is. A dream.
We were at the end of our fifth round. I was going to take a test when James comes home to see if it took.
I heard my phone chime, and I took it out of my pocket to check it.
Lacy: Wanna do dinner? We can bring food to your place? Anything you want.
Charlotte: Sure. Wanna stop by Alfies and get Italian? I'll send you what we want.
Lacy: YES! What time should we come?
Charlotte: Whenever you are ready. Im home now. We can get the food later if you want to come sooner.
Lacy: We will be over in an hour or so.
I got up and went back inside. I set my coffee cup in the sink, and walked upstairs to the bedroom. I took my sweat pants and t-shirt off and pulled on a pair of jeans and a pink shirt.
I gathered my dirty laundry and started a load washing. Unable to wait any longer, I grabbed the pregnancy test from the bathroom cabinet. I took the test and set a timer on my phone. I paced back and forth in the bathroom waiting on the longest three minutes of my life. When the timer went off, I walked over to the counter and closed my eyes. I took several deep breaths before opening my eyes and looking down.
I felt my heart drop and my throat constrict as I stared at, yet again, another negative test. I felt a tear roll down my face as I shoved the test off the counter and into the trash.
Needing to distract myself, I decided to make dessert for us tonight. I pulled out everything to make tiramisu and started placing the layers in a clear dish. Just as I finished, the front door opened and James, Aiden, and Lacy walked in. It was pretty warm out today, so we all changed into swimsuits and swam around in the pool for several hours.
