We just sat in the car for over an hour trying to calm ourselves. One of us needed to be able to drive. Eventually, It was James who drove us home. When we pulled into the garage, he ran around to my side, opened the door, and picked me up in his arms. I wrapped my legs around his waist as he walked us inside. He carried me into the living room and sat down on the couch.
"We're going to have a baby..." He said quietly trying to convince himself it was real. I couldn't hold back my tears as I heard the emotion in his voice.
"When should we tell people?" I asked him.
"I think we should tell the family soon, but maybe post an announcement after we know if its a boy or a girl. What do you think?"
"That sounds good. I don't want to take away from Lacy's wedding, so let's wait until after."
"You are so selfless. You know that? You have fought for this baby and suffered, and you are still thinking of everyone else before yourself." James said rubbing my back.
"Its just rude to do something like that, ya know?"
"Yeah, we will tell them soon though." James said kissing me.
...
James was over with Aiden at his house getting ready, while Lacy was here with me and all three of the moms. Her mom was curling her hair into loose beach waves while Anna did her hair.
I was trying to look busy so no one would stop and talk to me. I wanted to scream from the rooftops that I was pregnant. It didn't help that Lacy noticed me wiping a tear here and there and that I was shaking slightly when I would get emotional.
"Ok, honey, you're done!" Her mom said.
I got her dress out of the closet where it was hanging. I hooked it to the top of the door frame as Lacy walked over to put it on. She looked at me and smiled as she got closer to me. I wasn't able to back up away from her in time to dodge her hug.
She whispered into my ear, "We are going to have a talk girl to girl right now in your closet." She said as she nudged me backwards past the door.
"Excuse us for a moment!" Lacy said with a huge smile as she closed the closet door behind her and locked it.
"Spill." She said with her arms crossed over her chest and an eyebrow raised.
"I don't know what you are talking about.... And no!" I said trying to sound firm.
"Charlotte. I know you better than you think I do. You weren't even this giddy on your own wedding day, so I know its not my wedding. What is going on? You are shaky and you keep wiping tears off of your cheeks." She said.
"What? Can't I just be happy for my best friend?" I said defensively.
"CHAR!" she said sharply.
"I don't want to ruin your day." I said quietly as tears spilled and I covered my mouth.
"Oh, god! What happened?! Are you ok? Is James?!" Lacy said in a panic.
I nodded my head quickly and waved my hand dismissing what she was saying. "Lacy... I don't want everyone to know..." I whispered.
"Ok, fine just tell me! I'm dying here!"
"Im pregnant." I said softly.
"AHHHHHHHH!" Lacy screamed as she jumped into me to hug me. She had a death grip around me. We were both quiet for a minute before we separated. Lacy had tears running down her face, and her makeup was ruined.
"Lacy, your mascara is running, now... See, this is why I wanted to wait." I said pouting.
"I don't give a shit about my makeup!" She said with a smile wiping her eyes and smearing the mascara further. We both collected ourselves.
