Puppy and Jett

Chapter one

"Ren, I'm taking a break, can you man the front?" Koa, Ren's friend and coworker asks as he takes off his apron. Ren nods and waves him off, it wasn't a busy day so he didn't mind. He wiped down the counters and restocked supplies quickly, he hated seeing a dirty workspace but Koa was a klutz. He couldn't fault him though, he knew that it was beyond Koa.

"Excuse me!" A voice called behind Ren, He turned around to see a small group of guys. They were wearing Jersey's and sweaty. Ren recognized one of the guys, Alec.

"Welcome, what can I get you guys?" Ren said, forcing a bit of emotion behind his voice. Alec smiled, "well it's a bit of a long order- Ren? Wow you've changed since I last saw you- Oh the order, here I wrote it down since there were multiple of us." He chirped. Ren gave a half smile and took the paper than Alec was offering.

"Are you sure you don't want anything Adam?" Alec asks a Guy who was breaking his back trying to give someone else a piggy back ride.

"Uh.. I'm sure.. I don't like Coffee.-"

"Why didn't you go with the other guy's? They went to Bell's Taco, you didn't have to-"

"I Know! But- Argh if there's anything that's not coffee then i guess I'll have it.." Adam pouts.

Ren scoffed jokingly, "So this is the group you hang with now? What ever happened to hating sports?" Ren stated as he keyed in most of the order.

"That was middle school dude, besides you've changed a bit yourself. Quite the badass too, not that you've grown any." Alec teased. Ren grew silent and Alec realized he hit a nerve. Before he apologized Ren cut him off, "Uh for the hyper one, we have some fruity drinks and we have some drinks without much coffee but they are extremely sugary... Annnd by the looks of it he doesn't need much more energy." Ren said, his voice beginning to falter back in it's monotone regularity.

"Oh.. Yeah haha that's Adam. He's the human form of a puppy. Can't be left alone, energetic, and loves everyone. Just get him a large Passion Bliss and 2 of your banana nut muffins." Alec says, looking back at Adam who finally collapsed.

Ren nodded, "He yours?" He asked blankly as he keyed that in. He didn't bother asking everyone's name since he wasn't sure who's stuff was whose.

Alec shook his head, "what?" He asked slightly confused he cocked his head and tried to make eye contact with Ren who wouldn't look up.

"I don't know, even if you two aren't side by side right now I still feel some type of connection between you two. Also, he's the only one who hasn't handed you money. He didn't plan on getting anything but you're about to spot him anyways aren't you?"

Alec laughed, "Jealous Ren? No, I'm not with him. I just care about him a lot, I haven't been with any other guy besides you anyways. I think you were the only exception." He explained softly, he started to reach for Ren's hand. "43.22 ... Tell the puppy I'll spot him." Ren said as he moved his hand away.

Alec sighed and paid. After receiving his change him and the guys moved to one of the lounge tables to sit. Ren let out a relieved sigh and covered his face. He started making the drinks as Koa returned.

"Whoa sorry I didn't expect a team to come in... Wait isn't th-" Koa started as he began to help Ren make the drinks.

"Yes. Yes it is. I know I was going to work overtime but my shifts over so after I take care of this order I'm leaving."

"That's fine, but are you okay? I know you say that you shouldn't be af-"

"I'm fine Koa. Just.. Not the time I needed this to happen." Ren said as he grabbed a few muffins for the hyper one.
