Chapter 17...The Grapevine
(Dawson's P.O.V.)
That Saturday I went over to my parents' house while Danielle handled the kids. Dad and I were looking over all the details to Hudson's adoption. Making sure that there were no loopholes that she could get her grabby little hands through.
"Dad, why is she back?" I asked him while rubbing my eyes. We had been looking over everything for hours.
"Dawson, don't get discouraged we have a really strong case here," he encouraged.
"But why now? She's had three years to be in Hudson's life, and now she chooses to resurface?" I questioned. "I just don't want Hudson to get hurt."
"I know Son," he stated and then we continued to look over everything. I just hope that we can stop her.
I had no doubt in my father, he was one of the best lawyers of his time. He was one of the good kind. Like Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird. I can remember many times in my childhood finding him slaving over a case. Now I'm not saying he's perfect. He surely had his downfalls like any human being. One of his downfalls was his big heart. He always tired to find the good in people. But age had made him wiser. That's why I knew I had nothing to fear.
But I also knew Victoria's father, and knew he owned half of Maryland. That thought sent chills down my spine. For I knew what money could buy. Especially at the right price.
(Danielle's P.O.V.)
Hudson was watching TV, and the twins were coloring when the doorbell rang. I went to answer it and was surprised to see Suzie. She loved to give me updates about the school, you know just to keep me filled in on everything. It was also a perfect way for her to gossip.
"Hello Danielle," Suzie greeted as she pulled me into a great big hug. "I've missed you so much, and boy do I have a lot to tell you."
"Of course you do," I laughed.
"Danielle you need to come back to work. Your sub just can't handle the kids," she sighed as we walked into the house. "Oh your babies are getting so big! Speaking of babies where is the new one?"
"He's in his playpen," I stated smiling.
"Oh my goodness," she shouted as she rushed to his playpen to scoop him up. "Baby, come here to Aunt Suzie!"
You could tell by the look on his face he didn't know what to think of Suzie, but he didn't cry so that was something.
"Ross what do you think of Aunt Suzie?" I stated smiling at him, and that's when he grabbed a fist full of her hair.
I quickly unwound Ross's little hand from her hair. I had experienced his little trick before at it could be painful.
"Awe you are too cute! I could just hold you all day," Suzie squealed.
If only she saw him on his cranky days she'd be singing a different tune.
"Suzie would you like some coffee?" I asked as we walked to the kitchen so we could gossip.
She was the first adult contact I'd had in weeks besides Abby and Dawson. I was a little desperate.
Truth be told I need more friends.
Though Suzie wasn't all that bad, she had been there for me thru some rough times. Sometimes when I didn't even want her to. She's like a little sister you push away, and they keep coming back anyway. It kills Dawson that were friends, and for some reason I find that quite amusing.
"Yes please, oh what was I telling you before?" She asked from the table with Ross in her lap.
"Um I think it was something about my sub," I stated reaching for the coffee cups.
