"Kara, dear, please come clean up your plate! You know Uncle Donny doesn't approve of messy children!"
I leaped off of the couch in a frenzy, landing on a nearby pillow on the floor. Ethan jumped from the dresser onto his king-sized bed. "Watch out Kar! The lava'll get'cha!" Ethan shouted.
I squeaked in response, pulling my arms into my chest. "Auntie Chris!! I can't touch the lava floor!" I squealed.
I heard Auntie laugh, and steps echoing up the stairs. "Well, you better put your lava-proof boots on then, huh?" She appeared in the doorway, a big smile on her face. "Come clean up now, before Uncle gets home."
Aunt Chrissy put her hands below my armpits, and lifted me into her arms. I made a big pouty face, and crossed my arms. This always worked with mom.
"Mommmmmm! We were in the middle of a game!!" Ethan whined. He was seven, two years older than me.
"Yeah Auntie!! We were playing a game."
She turned towards the stairs. "Let's play a new game. It's called clean up the mess you made in the kitchen!" I groaned.
"No fun! That's a bad game!"
"Well we've got to. Sorry Sweetie."
As she started down the stairs, I started to squirm wildly, my only focus being to escape her arm-like cage. "Stop, Kara! You're going to fall!" Chrissy yelled.
With a final jerk, I managed to escape her arms. But the only thing that caught me was the floor at the bottom of the stairs. I tumbled down, uncontrollably. "Kara! No!" she shouted.
And as I stopped, all I could see was the blackness closing in.
***********************************
I woke with a startled scream. What was that all about?? Me, falling down the stairs?? I don't remember that at all.
It has to be fake. I would certainly remember that. Plus, my aunt, uncle, and cousin have been missing for almost two decades. I don't even know what they look like.
I sat up, holding my head in my hands. It was pounding, and I could count every single beat of my heart. 2:00 AM I figured it to be. The moon was going down. A nightmare?? I never get those... I had trained myself throughout the years to lock dreams in a box, just not to have them.
Shaking off the thought, I layed back down. It had been a week since the Alpha of Blood Moon passed. I had managed to escape unharmed, and unknown. I wasn't quite sure where I was exactly, but I was alive and well. That's all that mattered, surely?
I slept in a cave on a hard, rocky floor. But thanks to my powers, I can make it so I don't feel a thing physically. To a point, anyways. Trees surrounded the place, and there was a small stream that trickled by, giving me a water source. The trees were full with all kinds of animals, and I was able to cook meat using fire powers. Now all I had to do was find a second step.
I didn't know what to do. There was nothing that stood out to me. I am not wanted. Not there, not at Blood Moon, not anywhere.
Stop it, human! We are wanted for special reasons. Just... Hang in there, okay? Kylie was trying here best to keep my hopes up, but all attempts were just that. Attempts.
As I settled back into one place, I decided to sleep. It was too late- early for this.
My eyes drifted close, and as I fell into a dark, sleepy abyss, all I could wonder was, "What am I supposed to do?"
