Our friendship was unusual; the gregarious 13 year old befriending the taciturn 10 year old.
But we were together under oppressive circumstances, leaving no chance of us NOT meeting.
The revolution began 8 years ago - a war between government and public. Of course, our caustic government won over, placing all of it's adversaries into extensive, categorised camps
He and I were both placed in a youth camp, completely innocent, as it was our parents who revolted... Not us. But the government weren't taking any chances and placed us in the 'orphaned youths' camp. Because that's what we were: orphans.
The 'orphaned youths' camp was depressing. All the camps were, but ours particularly so. It. Was filled with a myriad of sad, lonely children who wandered the grounds looks positively lifeless.
Majority of us were not guilty, and we're simply dragged into the mess as result if our parent's actions.
