Author's POV

Valerian's keen gaze accessed the people frolicking around in the busy market place as a deep frown etched to his face.

The Werewolf Kingdom looked pretty normal. Nothing out of the blue. He could sense werewolves, witches, humans and a comparatively lesser equation of vampires. Vampires were rarely seen in Iris compared to Veneton where there were a higher population of them. It was understandable considering Veneton is the vampire kingdom while Iris is the werewolf kingdom. But one thing that irked him about both the kingdoms is their subjects. The people stared at him like hawks who have never seen a living organism before.

Even now when he stood there among throngs of people, he had the eyes of almost every passerby on him. Women giggling and ushering one another as they peeked glances at him shyly as if he was their future husband. Men giving him astonished and envious look as he captured every females attention.

No one could blame them.

Valerian did look like a prince out of a dark fantasy novel with his inky black hair that fell messily on his forehead and mysterious greyish-green eyes brooding at everyone.

If it was for Valerian though, he would have plucked all of their eyeballs out of their sockets. It irked him. No one could disrespect the king in such a way. But then, it wasn't his kingdom. If it were, no one would dare to make direct eye contact with him except his feisty little wife.

Kaitlyn and Nora were in the mansion he owned in this kingdom with Marilla, few of the ancient witches and his top warriors, coated by a protection spell.

The only reason he had taken the risk and bought his wife and daughter out of Ancientriova was because they both were worried to their bones about Noah. Otherwise, he wouldn't have risked bringing them here. Their existence itself would attract a lot of unwanted attention and he had enough warding off the hunters and rogues. He didn't want to add pesky black witches or other power hungry beings to the box.

"You're attracting a lot of folks with that face of yours, Milord," A cheery voice commented sarcastically as the figure of a young girl appeared in front of Valerian's sight who had been busy glaring at the people.

"Marilla." He addresses her with the signature coldness in his voice which makes the girl roll her eyes at him, "You were supposed to stay with Kaitlyn and Nora. Back in the mansion."

"Yeah. Yeah. I know." She shrugs nonchalantly, brushing her ocean blue hair with green highlights, off her shoulders.

"Then what are you doing here?" Valerian's voice is as calm as ever as he speaks although there's a storm raging in his head.

"The queen asked me to keep an eye on her husband so that he doesn't run off with another woman." The girl grins maddeningly at him, "The queen said and I quote, 'I can take care of myself and my daughter very well by my own. I know how to fight when needed. Besides, the witches and guards are here too. Go follow my idiot husband who went out all alone. I don't want him running of with some women. Keep an eye on him for me. Will you, Rilla?' And I being the faithful subject and a good friend that I am, said yes."

Valerian shakes his head with a private smile. Knowing Kaitlyn, she might've possibly said that. She's worried about his safety but she won't admit it straight-forwardly.

"Okay then. Do what your queen asked you to." He retorts as the girl walks next to him, her ocean blue eyes accessing the market place with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
