Chapter Ten

I woke up and rolled on my hand on accident. "OW AGHH". I didn't mean for it to be that loud but Darry slammed my door open making a dent in the wall. "What!? Are you ok". He said frantically running over to me. I pulled my hand up and noticed a red spot on my wrap. "I...I think I burst a stitch". I said the pain was finally setting in. Darry slowly unwrapped my hand and noticed that three of the stitches had busted open. "Lemme get the first aid, you gotta be more careful". Darry said getting on one knee and finishing unwrapping my hand. He put the alcohol on my hand and I winced. "I'm sorry y/n I know that's the worst part". He said rubbing my hand. He stitched them back up and wrapped my hand with a new wrap and stood up to go back to the kitchen. I got up and slid on a new shirt and jeans it was kind of cold out so I accompanied them with a flannel one of sodas old ones. I kept my hand close to my chest, I was kinda petrified with how easily the stitches could burst on my palm so I limited it to no physical contact or movement. "Hey short stack, pancakes are on the table". Soda said patting my back as I walked by. I grabbed a pancake and sat on the couch with pony, he was reading and not paying attention to anybody else. It was Friday so I had school which I wasn't looking forward to but I had no other option. "Hey Pony". I said setting my plate on the table I didn't plan to eat anything but I got it just Incase. "Oh hey y/n what's up". He said setting his book down. "Aw nothing, not looking forward to school". I said giggling. "Ya neither am I". He said rolling his eyes giggling with me. "You mess with any them socs again I ain't gone be there to help you". I said pointing at my hand. "Ya, ya think I haven't thought of that". He sat up we talked for a couple for a couple minutes before we left for school.

Hour later

It was time for lunch and normally I bring my lunch and eat with Two and Pony at Twos car, but today I forgot to make it so I got some cash from my bag and went to the cafeteria. I got up to cash register when a familiar face was across from me. A bruised face none the less but it was the Soc from yesterday. I smirked at him and he rolled his eyes. I gave the lunch lady my cash and took my sandwich over to Two and Pony. "Hey boys". I said laughing. "Your late". Two said smiling. "Forgot my lunch and I'm starving so I stopped by to get a sandwich". I said as I hopped on the hood of Twos car. The Socs from yesterday were walking up to his car and I set the sandwich down. "You boys looking for more trouble". Two said standing in front of me and Pony. "Ya ya whatever". The bruised Soc said walking towards us, I stood up and walked over to Two crossing my arms. "You didn't get enough me yesterday huh". I said smirking. "Whatever, like you could do much with that hand of yours". The Soc said standing in front of me. I jumped at him and he flinched. Me, Two, and Pony broke out into laughter and he got really angry. "We ain't done here...y/n". The Soc said walking off with his gang. It kinda spooked me that he remembered my name I was a little dumbfounded and quiet for the rest of the day and I couldn't concentrate in any of my classes. I walked home with Pony but we were both pretty quiet. When we finally got home Darry and Soda hadn't come back yet. "Wanna head to the DX check on Soda and Steve". I said, truth was I really didn't wanna be in the house right now. "Sounds good with me". We turned around and headed for the DX, when we made it there Soda had his daily entourage all flirting with him. "Hey Pepsi". I said sliding up to the counter. All the girls stared at me as I jumped over the counter. "Aye short stack whatcha doing here". He said giving me a hug. "Nothing didn't wanna be at home". The girls were giving me death glares. "Where's Steve". I said grabbing a candy bar from behind the counter. "He's back fixing ole Johnson's car, third time this week it's been here don't know why he won't just sell the ole hunk a junk". He said laughing. "Well I'll see you tonight Soda" I said winking at the girls as I slid through the back door into the car shop. "Aye Soda can you pass me the wrench". Steve said from under the car. I giggled and grabbed then wrench. "Aye th-". Steve pushes out from under the car and saw me. "Hey whatcha doing here". He said standing up wiping some of the oil off his shirt and dabbing the sweat from his brow. "Thought I'd stop by the house is lonely without y'all and heaven knows pony'll coop himself up in his room with a book". I said giggling and jumping on the tool table. I could see Soda was still stuck with all those girls and none of them looked like they were leaving anytime soon. I turned back around and Steve was right in front of me. He rubbed my cheek with his hand then kissed it. "You planning on staying till we close". He said grabbing the wrench he had asked for earlier and turning around. "Ya why". I said sitting up straighter. "Cause I could use some help on this car, hop on over here". I slid off the tool table and walked over to the hood of the car. Steve showed me how everything worked and had me change the oil. "Hey y/n you comin home with me or Steve". Soda said as he opened the door to the counter. I looked down at the car I wasn't even close to changing the oil and there was a couple things on the engine that had to be switched over to. "Uhm...I'll come home with Steve I got a lot to finish". I said running over and hugging Soda before he left. I went back over to the car and started back on the oil change. "How in the world is this thing legal to drive". I said laughing. "Dont ask me I'm just here to make it move". He said laughing as he slid out from under the car. "Well I'm done down there need any help". He said coming up next to me. "Maybe a little...I don't know how to twist these things on the engine". I looked at him and smiled. He wrapped his arms around me and moved my hands how your supposed to turn the handles. "Now I understand...too bad it's fixed now". I said turning around Steve's hands were against the hood of the car and I was in between his arms. I looked deeply into his eyes, we stared at each other for what felt like forever and his hands slowly crept up to my waist. We made out for forever till I looked away for a second and it was dark out. "Holy crap Steve the suns already set we gotta go!" I said pushing him off of me. He kept kissing my neck till he finally understood I was done. "Cmon let's head home before Darry skins me". I said grabbing his hand and kissing him on the cheek. He complied and we walked out the front door locking the front door and closing down shop. He kissed my neck and whisked me up bridal style carrying me home I kissed his neck and dug my head into his arm. I listened to his heartbeat the whole way home. "You better put me down before we walk inside". I said as we got to the front step and he dropped me down. "I should help you at work more often". I said smiling. "Not a half bad idea". He said kissing my cheek. I walked in first. "Where the hell have you been". Darry said standing up. "I'm sorry Dar I was helping Steve finish a car, that dang hunk of junk is finally safe to drive". I said laughing. Steve walked in after. "Ya she's better with a car then I think Soda will ever be". He said messing with Sodas hair. "Ya ya whatever". Soda said smacking Steve's hand. "Wouldn't mind having you around the station if your so good at fixing cars". Soda said smirking holding laughter. I slapped the back of his head and he shut up. Darry just looked at me not saying anything. I couldn't tell if he was angry, happy, confused...I think I was the one who was confused. "Well I'm covered in oil ima go change". I said trying to get out of this conversation. Steve left after dropping me off and I went to change and take a shower. It felt good to be dirty to know I did something other than calculus for a day, now I know how Soda feels...maybe I'll work full time at the DX, if I can ever get out Darrys grip it's like he can't let me grow up...
