The curious gleam in Vastra's eye expanded into a predatory smile as Alixandria reluctantly came down the stairs. She stood at the table, nightgown tickling her ankles. "Can I sit?"
"I don't know," said the Doctor. "Can you?" He grinned.
Alixandria looked at him mildly. "When I said 'can' I was using its secondary modal form as a verbal modifier asking for permission, as opposed to expressing an ability. I automatically assumed that you'd know that. My bad. May I sit down?"
Vastra smiled again and the Doctor pouted. "Have a seat, my dear." Alixandria walked to where the man in the tuxedo was and she slowly sunk into the only available seat. "So. Do you know what's going on and why the Doctor won't tell us?"
Alixandria swallowed and cast a look over at the Doctor. His hazel eyes met hers for a moment and he shook his head briefly, disguising it as a flip of his messy blonde hair. "I have no idea what he's talking about." Vastra pursed her lips together.
"What is so important that you won't tell us?" The other woman asked.
"We don't need your help!" The Doctor exclaimed.
"Then why did you come here?"
"I was high!" Alixandria choked out. "I wouldn't be any help if I was stoned so..."
"So I went to the nearest place in time with people I trusted, which was here." The Doctor added. They were silent for a while, only the sound of the wailing wind and cracking thunder echoing through the house.
"Doctor. Through your various regenerations you've chosen different companions," Vastra started. The Doctor exchanged a rather confused glance with Alixandria. "All for different reasons. Why did you chose Alixandria?"
"I didn't chose her. Right place, right time." He shrugged mildly.
"I find that hard to believe. You do drugs, don't you Alixandria? Illegal contraband?"
"I didn't know this was a police interrogation. But yes. I do."
"Why?"
"I don't know."
"What else do you do? Besides drugs anyway."
Alixandria seared just a bit. "Are you assuming that I only do drugs?"
"I'm asking you to prove that you don't."
"Well what do you think I do all day? Smoke weed with my thumb planted firmly up my-"
"Alixandria!" The other woman exclaimed. The tuxedoed man howled with laughter, slamming his pudgy hand on the table.
"You tell her, lass!" He whooped. Vastra shot him a look.
"Up your what, Alixandria?" The Doctor snickered.
"I wouldn't know," Vastra said. It was the Doctor's turn to flame.
"She's more than her flaws, Vastra. Alixandria's smart, but she's even more clever. And she questions everything, she's not some ignorant bimbo who does what she's told. Yeah, it's going to get really old really fast but it's going to save her life time and time again." Alixandria looked over at him and gave a small smile. There was a loud crack followed with a powerful boom that resonated through the house, shaking it. Almost simultaneously the gaslamps were extinguished leaving them in darkness.
"Lightning hit the house..."the tuxedo man grumbled.
"But none of the lights are electric," Alixandria mused. "Why would they go out...?"
"If this is what I think it is..." The Doctor muttered.
"Huh?!" Alixandria exclaimed.
"Ixan! Come with me!" He said. Alixandria heard the scrape of a chair on tile and saw the silhouette of the Doctor as another flash of lightning illuminated the house. She followed, sprinting back upstairs. The Doctor ran into her room, and swung open the window panes. "Quickly! Get dressed!" She pulled on her jeans under her nightgown and threw it over her head, putting on her Muse shirt. The Doctor had his sonic screwdriver in hand, leaning out of the window.
"What is it?" She asked, coming next to him. The rest of the people at the table were beginning to pile in the room.
"Here," the Doctor beckoned her, the tip of his screwdriver illuminated. Alixandria leaned out of the window in front of him. "Meet me on the top of the house."
"How long will you be?" She asked, tying her Converse on.
"I've got to go fetch something from the TARDIS," he said. The Doctor delved his hand into the ridiculously deep pockets of his slacks and pulled out a sheathed black dagger. "Take this." He pressed it in her hand.
Alixandria frowned. "Will I need it?"
The Doctor gave her a toothy grin with his overly long canines. "I dunno what's up there. Now go!" He said, running back out of the room.
"What did he say to you?" Vastra asked.
"I wouldn't know," Alixandria said. "And if I did, I wouldn't tell you because I trust you less than my success rate at doing a push up."
She stood on the outside of the window sill, freezing rain pelting her. Alixandria put a foot on one of the slick tiles and tried putting her weight on it. It slipped off, falling down three stories before breaking it. Alixandria figured she'd either have to lose a number of pounds or just run up pretty fast. She got on her hands and knees, grabbing the tiles and pushing off quickly before they could slip.
She was already soaked to the skin with ice water and her body trembled from the cold. Alixandria was scared of what could possibly be on the roof, and ever more scared that the Doctor left her. It was just like every Hobbit movie ever where Gandalf always leaves and then Thorin and Co always almost die.
In theory she was almost going to die then. Almost, though.
However, once she was on the unstable roof Alixandria saw what she never expected to see. It was a tall dark being, with a bony black (not African American, but actually the colour black) 'body' and a face like hell with that black skin pulled tightly over it. It didn't really have a face, but one amber eye that flickered over her. Alixandria was shocked, to say the least.
He, assuming it was a male, started speaking rapidly in some language she couldn't even begin to understand, with strange sounds, certainly no language on Earth. He seemed rather excited, at least, he seemed as excited as a man with hardly face could be. He stopped himself, fiddled with some buttons on his wrist, and spoke in perfect English: "Do you like Chinese food?"
