Day 3: Love and Hope (Kaede x Makoto)

Day 3: Coffee Shop

Whoo, I'm on a roll with these! This ship is more likely as a rare pair in the fandom, so if you don't like the ship, you can just not read it! Everyone has their shipping opinions, and you don't have to harass them for it (Besides, I kind of see it as a platonic relationship). Anywho, this one-shot is gonna be set in a non-despair (is that a thing?) AU, where everything is just fine and dandy :D

Narrator's POV 

So everyone likes Starbucks, right? 

I can assume that.

Everyone in Japan liked going to this famous coffee shop to relax, hang out with friends, or do their homework (if your one of those people). Many schools enjoy going to this place to do the same thing, and Hope's Peak Academy is no exception.

The principal of the school requested a shop on the school campus exclusively for the students there. They had top-notch service, wonderful interior, and not to mention delicious refreshments and treats. The students were privileged scholars with amazing talent, being experts at what they do, so (I guess?) they deserved it. Yet all but one stood out among the unique students.

Makoto Naegi took a sip of his coffee as he stared at his laptop in frustration. He and some other students were at the coffee shop, but it wasn't crowded. He was supposed to make a 10k-word essay about love and hope, but he had no idea where to start! His essay was due the day after tomorrow, so he had to scrap about as much time to finish it. And the ironic part about this is that he was named the 'Ultimate Hope' after an event that happened long ago. 

(A/N: don't ask me what that event was, but let's just say it's equivalent to something that happened in the games, alright? ;) )

It wouldn't be a problem for someone with a title like that, right? Well the hope part was easy, but to mix it with love was a bit of a problem. He didn't know what to say about it! So he just sat there, pondering about what to type into his laptop when suddenly someone went up to him.

"Hey, you doing alright? You seem a bit troubled..." a blonde girl almost about his age asked. Her name was Kaede Akamatsu, the Ultimate Pianist. They actually have met long ago, but their relationship is kinda distant. "Oh, Kaede! Nothing, it's just something I'm working on..." Makoto said in reply. "Really? Cause it looks like anything but nothing,"  Kaede said in suspicion as she took a seat in his table. 

The boy sighed in defeat, "Alright, I'll tell you. There's this essay I have soon that I can't finish, about love and hope," he said. "Well if it's about hope, won't you finish it in no time? I mean, you are the Ultimate Hope after all, right?" Kaede pointed out. "Well, yeah, but the part where I have to mention 'love' had me stuck," Makoto answered. 

"Love?" she asked. "Well, I don't know anything about love, but maybe I can help you out!" Kaede suggested. "Really?" the boy sain in surprise. "Well okay then...what do you think about it?" the blonde sat silently as she thought of an answer. Then finally said, "When I think about love, it's more than just being interested physically in someone, it's an emotional devotion. Love is more of a feeling that a person feels for someone...it means to be deeply committed and connected to someone or something. The meaning of love is to feel more than liking towards someone."

(A/N: Yeaahhhh, I kinda took that answer from a google search :/ )

Makoto looked shocked by Kaede's response, because that was a deep answer. "Woah, didn't you say you didn't know anything about love?" he asked in surprise. "I dunno, maybe it was from watching too many romance shows," she shrugged. They both laughed and started talking some more.

Talking with a distant friend was really refreshing for the two of them, especially since they had so much to talk about! They both stayed at the cafe laughing, and talking about stuff as Makoto finished his essay, and it was a nice day for the two of them.

"Soooooo, what are you two lovebirds talkin' about?" a sudden voice said, startling two. The person that appeared before them was Ibuki Mioda, the Ultimate Musician. "Oh, we were just having a little chat, that's all!" Kaede replied. "Wait, did you say lovebir-" Makoto started to ask, but Ibuki grabbed Kaede by the arm and left along with her. "Sorry, but Ibuki and Kaede-chan have some business to do!" she said as she gleefully dragged Kaede to the exit.

Somone apparently was waiting for the two of them. Sayaka Maizono, Ultimate Pop Sensation stood near the exit waiting for the two. A few minutes later, Ibuki and Kaede came out of the coffee shop and approached her. "Ibuki has returned with Kaede-chan!" Ibuki announced happily. "Ah, there you are," Sayaka said in a calm manner. "We waited for you to enter the music room, but you didn't show up..."  

Ooo, that's right! The three of them apparently became close friends because of their talents for music, and they often jam together in the music room. Kaede must've been caught up chatting with Makoto she forgot!

"Oh yeah, sorry about that guys..." Kaede said nervously. "Ehhh it's okay, we can just go to the music room tomorrow!" Ibuki said casually. The three started walking back to their classes when Sayaka asked, "So, what were you doing at the coffee shop, Kaede?" But before the blonde could answer, Ibuki chimed in and said, "Oh, she was having a date with Naegi-kun!" Kaede blushed in surprise of Ibuki's answer while Sayaka looked surprised, "N-no no no no! It could be anything but that!" Kaede stammered.

"Nahhhh I'm just messin' with ya," Ibuki said. "But seriously though, you guys look cute together! I can almost imagine your wedding!" the peppy girl exclaimed. Kaede scoffed and said, "Yeah, like that would happen, Besides, we're just friends!" Sayaka smiled at the two and said, "Well if you insist Kaede, but you two seem to get along well," she said. "But that could just be me..." And they continued talking as they entered their classes.

Kaede and Makoto do seem to have quite the relationship, right? They might see each other as friends, but even friends can turn into lovers. Who knows? Mybe they would end up in a relationship together. But for now, we just have to wait.
