Chapter 4

I felt so comfortable waking up from my sleep as I moaned into the pillow. Wait...pillow? My eyes snapped open as I took in my surroundings.

I was no longer in a plane and instead I was in a light room with white walls. Almost everything was white, the bedding, the dresser, the furniture, the curtains and the night gown I was now wearing too. Wasn't I in a plane?

I walked to the door and tried to open it but it was locked from the outside. The windows had bars and there was nothing to see except the forest and the morning sunrise. Great, I was a prisoner. Wouldn't be the first time anyway.

I walked to the other door in the room to realise it was an en-suite with a bath tub and toilet. It had all the necessities. How kind. There was a mirror above the sink with a sticky note that read 'Freshen Up' that's it.

The only proof I had of being on a plane was the aching in my neck from sleeping upright. It was aweful!

Half an hour later when I stepped out of the bath tub there was a knock on my door. I put on a robe that hung on the rail as I walked out of the bathroom. To my surprise Christian was right there with a large pizza box and two soda cans in his hands.

"Hey! I thought you could use some food. Unfortunately Dan and I can't cook but thank God for pizza, am I right?" He sounded peppy.

I settled on the bed while he sat on a chair that he moved next to the bed and put the box in between us.

Christian was the first to speak, breaking the silence we had been eating in. "I know your life was going well before we just smashed into it but I need you to understand that what we are doing now, it could save so many lives. It probably will get messy but I just want you to know that I'm here if you ever want to talk about anything."

"Okay Christian."

"Please, call me Chris. I just wanted to remind you that were not the bad guys here. We are the good guys." His smile looked so genuine I wanted to believe him, well...I was supposed to.

In my hunger I had forgotten to ask. "How did I get here? The last thing I remember is sleeping in the plane. Why am I being locked up? Who changed my clothes?"

"I'm sorry but we had to sedate you while you were in the plane so you wouldn't know where our hideout is. We don't fully trust you but we won't lock your door anymore, just safety measures. As for your luggage, I've already packed it in the dresser." He explained.

I cleared my throat."Who changed me?"

"Uh...that was Dan. I didn't want you to feel uncomfortable because of the jeans you were wearing. I thought you'd feel more comfortable with him doing it well since..."

"He's seen me naked before." I finished the sentence for him.

I stood up as I finished my pizza. I was walking towards the dresser which was next to the door of the bathroom to get some clothes when I slipped. Yes, I slipped on the damn water that had dripped on the floor when I got out of the tub since I hadn't wiped myself off.

Christian rushed to catch me but he also slipped and we both ended up falling onto the floor. Only goodness knows how I wish I could have fallen on him so he could break my fall but my back hit the tiled floor about the same time as his did.

"Fuck!" I yelled at the same time as he muttered, "Shit!"

I winced with my eyes closed rubbing the back of my head that had also kissed the floor. I felt some weight on top of me and opened my eyes to see Christian checking my head. "Are you hurt? Are you bleeding?"

I held his face in my hands to hold him in place because it was making flustured the way he kept checking me for injuries. His brown eyes pierced mine. "I'm okay. I'm not bleeding so relax."

He simply nodded and stood up holding his hand out for me. I grabbed it and got on my feet as well. "I'm still alive so you can go about your mission." I folded my hands rolling my eyes. Obviously he was worried because he still needed me as a pawn.

"Its not just about that. I genuinely care if you are okay." He frowned.

I was now getting irritated. He didn't need to pretend."You don't need to do this okay."

"Do what?"

"Act like you care! We don't know each other. I'm here to get your evidence and leave so drop the act."

Christian now had a sad look on his face. "It's called humanity. I was just being nice but its okay. I'll be downstairs."

Before I could say anything he left. Humanity. I scoffed, people didn't have that these days.

I put on pair of shorts and a top.

I walked downstairs to find Daniel seated on a couch typing away on the laptop that was placed on his lap. "I knew I had used too much sedative on you. You've been asleep for the last twenty four hours."

"Huh?" This was news to me.

He closed his laptop placing it on the coffee table before motioning for me to seat, which I did. "Tonight is the charity ball. I want no mistakes everything should go according to plan."

I simply nodded. "So what should I do or say when I meet him. Leo hasn't seen me in two years."

"That's your problem not mine. Deal with it."

Leo is an intelligent man. Even I never found out if he knew the reason for me running away but I've always wondered why he stopped looking for me. Had he forgotten about me and moved on? Was he happy I was gone? Had he given up trying?

I guess the answers to all my questions were going to be answered in a few hours...
