Chapter 47 : Father and Son

Singto, Krist, Off, and Gun were all cheering at New's 'announcement'. Off is particularly proud of his brother's courage and becoming responsible. Tay became his step-brother's motivation to improve himself. And he is genuinely happy for them.

Gun glances at his father in the VIP seats. He couldn't be happier enough on this day.

"You still haven't told me how you manage to drag Pa to come here.", he asked his partner.

Off scratches his head, looking hesitant. He glances at his 'father-in-law' who happens to be looking at their direction as well.

"I kinda courted him from that day I surprised visit you.", he explained.

3 months ago.

"Are you that rascal's special friend?", the old man asked Off.

He was waiting for Gun to come out of his room for almost half an hour now but the maid said that the small guy has just fallen asleep so he told the maid to let him be and that he will just wait until he wakes up. That's when Gun's dad came out of his room and saw Off waiting in the living room. By the way the old man talks and described Gun, he sensed right away that two are not in good terms.

"Could this be the reason why little Gun is spacing out sometimes?", he thought to himself. He stood up and wai to Gun's dad.

"Ah, yes, sir. I'm his friend.", he politely replied.

"You're just wasting your time on him. He is a walking disaster.", the old man responded coldly.

Off felt sad for Gun and offended at how this old man treats his son. He wants to understand why this is the situation so he endured the old man's 'rudeness'.

"I'm sorry, sir, but if you think that way of your own son. Then would it be ok for you if I take your 'disastrous' son out of your life?", he bravely responded. The old man creased his forehead, seemingly annoyed at Off's boldness. Off smiled and bowed his head.

"I will take care of your son for you if you'd allow me.", he said.

The old man was stunned and speechless. Gun never talked back to him that way. He doesn't know how to make a conversation with him since he was always been closer to his mom. If this daring man really is going to take away Gun from him, does that mean, he is 'marrying' Gun?

"Absurd!", he retorted. Off looked at him politely but a strong vibe is coming off from this young lad. He feels that this man is not easy to deal with. He shook his head and left the handsome man alone.

From then on, Off visits him from time to time in unexpected moments and spent some time to make a conversation. Usually when Gun isn't around or busy at work, he drops by Gun's place to play chess or just have a tea with Gun's old man. He found out that the father and son both sucks at expressing themselves.

"You act cold but you actually do care, sir.", Off uttered one day while they were having a small talk. Gun's father looked at Off, wondering.

"You could have stayed in the US but you're here to watch over your son, spending your remaining years with him.", he smiled, speaking casually.

The old man acted as if he wanted to smack Off's head and Off anticipated it, laughing. The old man chuckled instead then cleared his throat, trying to pacify himself.

"What kind of parents who doesn't care about their child?", he replied in a serious manner, almost whispering.

"Aha! You said it!", Off teased the old man, giggling. Gun's father avoided Off's gaze, suppressing a smile.

"Papii.. Where did your mind off to?", Gun tugged the tall man who paused for a moment, reminiscing the past. Off blinked a couple of times, trying to get his head back into the present.

Off smiled at the little guy, pinching his partner's cheek.

"You really aren't telling me, huh?", Gun insisted, pouting his lips.

"It's between in-laws only.", Off responded, winking at Gun.

"In-laws.", Gun repeated in his mind, suddenly feeling shy. He stopped bugging. He knows Off will tell him about it someday somehow. So he watched the show together with this super cool guy beside him, leaning his head on Off's arm as Tay and New bowed and waved goodbye to the audience.
