I woke up in Tristan's arms. Then the water works began. Tristan woke up and held me close, allowing me to get salty tears on his white shirt.
I clung to him for dear life and didn't ever want him to let me go.
"Don't leave me, Tristan." I faintly sobbed.
"Never." He simply responded. He buried his face in my hair and I felt his heart beat rise. He was crying I could tell from his shaking body.
Tristan never cries.
When he does, it breaks my heart.
After a while of sobbing, I decide it was time to get dressed. I grabbed a pair of loose jeans and a t-shirt. Tristan came downstairs with me in his suit from yesterday, just without the tie and jacket.
Sage was making breakfast while Violet was feeding Murdock, her baby boy who was almost three months old. I allowed a small smirk to come to my tired face as I watched Tristan avert his eyes away from Violet breastfeeding her baby out in the open.
"Jazz," Sage came over to where Tristan and I sat at the breakfast table. "I know it's really soon, but the conversation was bound to happen sooner than later." Violet came over with Murdock in her arms. "I want you to come live with me." I scrunched up my nose and squeezed Tristan's thigh.
"No," I offensively said.
"We don't have any other relatives that can take you in. You're only sixteen. You still have a year left of high school and roughly two years before you're eighteen. And I can't afford to live here, neither can Vi."
"I'll ... I'll live with Tristan."
The reason I was so against living with Sage was because she lived in a completely different town five hours away. I couldn't bear not being with Tristan especially at a time like this.
"Jazz, all of us know you can't live with Tristan. His parents wouldn't allow it."
"I'll also move in," Violet chimed in. "We'll all be together."
"Exactly. Cody has already given the okay."
I wasn't exactly happy with Cody, Sage's husband. He missed my dad's funeral because he was on a business trip. In all honesty I can't blame him for being busy. He had the trip scheduled months in advance and he was already on it when my dad passed away. He wouldn't be returning for another two days.
Tears began to pile up in my eyes right when I thought I didn't have anymore. "But—" I stammered. "But what about Tristan? And my friends?" My friends really only included Lizzy and lately Jeff, I guess. But still, I didn't want to leave people like them.
Sage placed a hand on my shoulder. "You can visit Tristan and he can visit you. Same thing goes for friends. Look, I just think it's best we stick together." Violet nodded.
I nodded but I'd just lost all of my appetite. I got up from the table and walked out the front door. I sat down on the front steps thinking of all the black shoes that made their way on the very porch of this house to give condolences to a man's three daughters who were now all orphans only yesterday.
That's what I am. An Orphan. Someone that no one wants.
I heard a heavy sigh and someone sit down next to me.
Tristan sat with his hands between his legs, elbows resting on his knee caps.
"You'll only be five hours away." He softly said. I nodded.
"I know it's for the best that I go live with Sage it's just ... what am I suppose to do at a new school without you? I have a hard time making friends."
"You and Lizzy became best friends in one night."
"I don't know. That was a miracle I prayed for."
"Who said you have to stop praying?" I looked to Tristan and took in a deep breath then let it out.
"I guess going to a new school will allow me to have a clean start. No more sexual assault victim, no dead dad, no anorexia nervosa."
Tristan sighed. "I guess I'll have a crappy year without you, then."
I laid my head on his shoulder and he wrapped his arm around me. "I'll only be five hours away." I smiled. I felt Tristan smile and he kissed my head.
"Don't let yourself get into a dark place. Don't hide your feelings from your sisters." I looked at him. "You don't think I know who you yelled at for hating yesterday?" I looked down and swallowed tears. "Please, Jasmine, call me when you need me. When you need someone to talk to. I'll never leave you. I love you."
"I love you, too, Tristan."
"Then stop hating yourself."
