It rained all day Saturday and Snapchatting and texting Tristan became my past time activity. I didn't see him again until Monday.
I got to school early for the first time in forever and sat in his truck with him. We talked and I got to hear his laugh.
I loved it.
It was so manly. Masculine. I felt safe and secure around him. Once the bell rang, we got out of his truck.
We walked side by side and I just kept glancing at his hand that swayed back and forth with mine. I wondered if he was going to grab it. Maybe he's embarrassed of me. He may not be super popular but everyone in school knows him. No one knows me, though. I'm not a Jordan Freeman. I'm not popular, what if he's ashamed to be seen holding my hand?
My worries were washed away as a large hand took hold of my small one.
"You don't mind, do you?" He asked. I looked up at him and shook my head with a stupid smile on my face. He smiled in return and we walked the rest of the way to class looking like a couple.
We walked into math and I got a glare from Miley. I ignored her and followed Tristan to his seat.
We had a sub which meant worksheet and pretty much free time. Tristan and I talked all of class about ... stuff. School, college, future careers. Our conversation even switched back and forth between movies and books. I made the once brooding boy laugh and smile and look happy for once.
After class, he walked me to my next one. I told him he didn't have to and he said he would only walk me to my classes if he was in the same class before. I agreed to it. I just didn't want to trouble him.
I had American Lit. next and caught Hannah watching Tristan hug me goodbye at the door. I walked in and averted my eyes away from hers. I usually sat down next to her but I took advantage of the no seating arrangement and stole a seat that I knew no one else sat in.
I kept to myself all of class but couldn't help hear the whispers and conversations around me.
When I heard Tristan's name, I looked up and listened intently to whoever was talking about him.
"Did you see him today in Math?" Sarah Panning asked.
"Yeah, his laugh echoed throughout the whole classroom." Jen Matson giggled. "I've never heard him laugh before, I actually didn't think he could. Who was making him laugh? Who was that girl?"
"Jasmine Sivon, she's on the track team." Sarah answered.
"Oh, okay,"
I looked down and acted like I wasn't listening.
"She's no longer on the track team," I glanced up at the sound of my friend's voice, Hannah.
"Why not?" Jen asked.
"She's anorexic, so they had her quit."
"That sucks." Jen said.
"Yeah, being skinny sucks." Sarah joked. "She's so thin."
"Is she?"
"Yeah. Like really skeletal looking."
"Hey, do you think Tristan and her are going out?"
"They most definitely are. With the way they were flirting all of class." They all giggled. Was it really that obvious? We were just talking. We didn't even flirt!
"I wonder what he sees in her, then." Jen wondered.
"Yeah, she's nothing like what he usually dates."
