I hear the footsteps, light but steady against the wind
I sense your guard fall, your shoulders sink
As you try not to panic after finishing your fight
There's breathlessness in your voice, there's a chance you may scream in exhaustion. You just might.
But you don't.
And I know this time is hard for you so I keep silent and watch.

Watch how your speed picks up as soon as you've left the scene
How your hands reach up frantically to wipe the tears you don't want to be seen.
You stopped in the corner to catch your breath
Before resuming your race to your safe haven,
That unspoken vow with it to hide your true feelings till your death.
I watch as your hands - still shaking - reach the door knob
Grapsing it just as your unwanted tears now turn into a sob.
A soft bang and the door is closed
A hiccup and your emotions are now allowed to flow.
I stay patient and let you be
because I know when you've let it all out, you will come to me
And pass me a weak smile, one I always return
Before you step back from the sink, your eyes never leaving mine
'I'm fine'. 'I will be this time.'

A deep breath and you redo your tight bun
