I paced back and forth as the White Witch and Aslan spoke in his tent, my heart pounding in my chest as I paced. Oreius made his way towards me and rested his hands on my shoulders.
"Be still young one, all will be well." He spoke softly to me.
"I just can't help but feel like all won't be well." I said letting go of a breath I didn't know I was holding.
"Aslan won't let any harm come to your brother, that I know to be true." He said and then nodded his head towards Peter and the others. "Go and sit with your brothers and sisters."
With a nod I made my way over to them, Lucy instantly pulled me into a tight hug and sat me down next to her. Edmund was pulling up grass, Peter was currently trying to speak to Susan who only focused on the flaps to Aslan's tent. The whole mood in the camp was one laced with sadness and hope. Sadness at the though of Edmund being taken away, but hope that Aslan will find a way to save him. Soon the white witch made her way out of the tent with a smug look on her face, with my heart racing I stood and watched as Aslan made his way out. His face unreadable.
"She has renounced her claim on the Son of Adam's blood." He said and the camp erupted into cheers.
Instantly I felt relieved and pulled Edmund into a tight hug, Peter, Lucy and Susan soon joined the hug each of us feeling relieved that he was safe.
"And how do I know your promise will be kept?" The white witch called back as she stood by her throne.
And with that Aslan roared so loudly that it caused my heart to tremble, but it also caused the white witch to fall back into her throne. This caused the Narnians in Aslan's camp to laugh at her, as she was carried away I looked towards Aslan expecting to see him with a look of joy on his face, however instead I saw him looking full of sorrow. I noticed Lucy looking towards him too, however when he noticed that we were both looking at him he changed his expression to a happy one. Oreius made his way over to me and smiled.
"Did I not tell you all would be well?" He said with a smile.
"You're right." I said smiling at him.
Everyone then began to celebrate the good news that Edmund was safe, the party lasted until dark and soon it was time for us to go to sleep. However when lying down in my bed I couldn't fall asleep, no matter what I tried I couldn't drop off to sleep and a feeling of dread was swelling inside me. Finally I decided to get up, pulling on a dark blue cloak I stepped outside. The camp was silent apart from the occasional crack of a still burning fire. However it was as I turned to Aslan's tent that I saw him leave it, once he noticed me I made my way over to him.
"Can't sleep?" He asked.
"No, I keep feeling like something's going to happen. I just don't know what, where are you going Aslan?" I asked him.
"I can't say dear one, but I would enjoy the company." He said softly. "And shouldn't the two of you be in bed?"
Turning around I noticed Susan and Lucy coming from behind a tree, smiling at them they made their way over to me and Aslan. I made my way over to Lucy and tied her cloak a little tighter around her shoulders, Aslan looked at me and I could tell he was smiling.
"You care greatly for your brothers and sisters." He said watching me.
"I always have, our mother even said I tried to take care of Peter like I did with the others and we're the same age." I said with a small giggle.
"Can we come with you?" Lucy asked.
"For a while, but when I tell you that I must go alone you must obey." Aslan said.
And with that the three of us rested our hands on Aslan's mane, then with a deep sigh we began to walk with him in silence. After what felt like the longest time Aslan stopped.
"This is where I go alone, however I would like to speak with Elizabeth before I go." He said solemnly. "Follow me."
Turning to look at Susan and Lucy I smiled softly at them and then followed Aslan, once we were a good distance away Aslan turned to me.
"Elizabeth, I have watched your care and devotion towards your brothers and sisters since you came to Narnia, each act you performed you did with your family in mind. Now I ask you to think of Narnians as your family." Aslan spoke and I couldn't help but smile.
"I already do Aslan, ever since I came here and met Mr Tumnus. I have felt connected to this land, and I want to do everything I can to protect it from the white witch." I said resting a hand on the sword at my hip.
"And for that I thank you." He said nudging my head with his own. "Dear courageous one, in the coming battle you will need to fight. And now I give you the courage to do so."
Once Aslan and finished speaking he breathed on me, filling my heart with strength and courage I didn't know I possessed. However when I looked in the distance I could see flickering flames and hear the angry cries of the white witches minions.
"Aslan." I said feeling tears sting my eyes.
"Fear not dear one, this is something I must do." He said and then began to turn away. "Protect them in my absence."
With that I couldn't hold my tears in any longer, falling to my knees I sobbed silently into my hands as I watched Aslan walk to his death. It was then I knew what he had done, he had traded his life in exchange for Edmund. Lucy and Susan soon came over to me and held me while I sobbed, we then moved to a bush where we watched the scene unfold.
