"Grandpa!" Shuxin called as she happily flounced. "Look! Look!"
Shuxin's grandpa looked up from reading the newspaper. The actress shoved her left hand into his face, startling the poor old man.
"Oh my, what is that?" Grandpa Yu asked as he inspected the ring. "It's so beautiful!"
"It's obviously a ring, grandpa," Shuxin retracted her hand.
"Well, it's a very nice ring."
"Grandpa, I think you and I both know that this ain't what I am trying to tell you."
Grandpa Yu took off his spectacles and set them down onto the table. He slowly put Shuxin's hands in his and smiled at her.
"She proposed, didn't she?" he said.
"Yep!"
"Ha, I knew it. She came to me three days ago to ask me permission to marry you."
"Really? She did?" Shuxin was astonished.
"Yes," Grandpa Yu said. "It was when..."
It was a fine afternoon to take a stroll in the garden and admire nature. And that is exactly what Grandpa Yu was doing. The old man walked along the cobblestone path, marveling at the beauty of the lilies in his garden.
"Is Grandpa here?" came a familiar voice.
"He's taking a walk in the garden, CEO Zhao."
"Ah, I see."
Grandpa Yu turned and looked towards the gate. Zhao Xiaotang was there, talking to one of the maid. He smiled.
"Is that Zhao Xiaotang?" he called.
"Yes, grandpa!" Xiaotang said as she turned to where the voice came from. The CEO jogged over to where the old man was.
"I was just thinking about you and Shuxin!" Grandpa Yu smiled. "Where is she?"
"Well actually," Xiaotang scratched the nape of her neck. "She doesn't know that I am here."
"Oh?"
"Yeah. I came here to ask you something very important."
"What is it?"
"I would like to ask you for Shuxin's hand in marriage and if possible your blessings."
Grandpa Yu looked at Xiaotang. The girl seemed so tense and serious about this. He smiled to himself. He'd known since he first met the CEO that this day would come.
"Come, walk with me, my child." Grandpa said.
Xiaotang walked alongside the old man. The duo strolled along a cobblestone path as they admired the flowers. When they came to a particular place, Xiaotang stopped to crouch down.
"Your lilies are beautiful," Xiaotang whispered as she touched a few of them.
