"What is it?" Y/N asked warily. She didn't like how the other girl's ears were slightly flattened, or the look in her eyes.

Nipponia looked down the hallway. "Can I come in?"

Y/N stepped aside, and the Countryhuman slipped by her. She shut the door, and looked at Nipponia, who was glancing around the room.

"Nice posters," the cat-girl said, slightly awkwardly, referring to the paintings of a flying goshawk- painted by SH- and a propaganda piece of an American soldier crushed under a nuke, with a smiling North Korean worker standing in front of it.

"Thank you." Y/N shifted from foot to foot. "Do you want to... sit down?"

Nipponia nodded thankfully, sitting on the floor by the window. Y/N followed her, leaning her back against the wall.

A few minutes passed while the Countryhuman stared intensely at the portraits of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il.

"So, what do you want to talk to me about?" Y/N asked. The other girl's silence was making her incredibly uneasy.

"I wanted to tell you something." Nipponia was quiet for a few more moments, drawing her knees up to her chest. Then, "I'm sorry. I really don't know how to start."

"Take your time," Y/N comforted her. By the way that the republic was acting, she wasn't sure that she wanted to hear it. "Thank you, by the way. For that time when you stopped America from taking me."

America had approached them at the meeting for troubled countries, asking to speak to Y/N alone, and the cat-eared girl had pulled her away to the washroom.

"Yeah," Nipponia said quietly. "I recognised the way he was looking at you." She took a deep breath in, then let it out, along with her words. "America raped me."

Y/N blinked in shock, not absorbing what had been said. "What?"

"Please don't make me repeat it." The girl had her face buried in her knees.

An image of Nipponia on the ship, blood dripping from where her claws dug into her palm, flashed through Y/N's head. "W-When?" A sick feeling sat low in her stomach.

The republic tilted her face, looking at her guiltily with one eye. "On and off, ever since I became a girl."

Nipponia had been a girl as long as she had been alive. Putting two and two together, it clicked in her head.

     "Oh."

"I'm not telling you to cause trouble," the Countryhuman said quickly. "I just... thought that you should know."

Y/N felt sick, all of the nights that she had spent lying awake, feeling achingly lonely, flashing through her mind. Then she realised-

'I never once wondered if he was cheating on me.'

Every night that America hadn't come home, or had come home late or drunk, Y/N had never even considered the idea that it had been because he was with another woman. She had been so sure that he had loved her.

The urge to throttle her stupid past self flashed through her.

"I'm sorry." Nipponia started to get to her feet. "You probably hate me now. I should go."

"No!" Y/N swiftly grabbed the girl's wrist, pulling her back down. "I was just- just surprised. Why would I hate you?"

There was a twisted sense of jealously deep inside of her, a remnant of her old state of mind, but it made Y/N feel guilty- sick with herself, and was easily crushed.
