✧Choice #1, Go with Xukun✧

Thinking, you ponder whether you should go with your friend or not. You remember the test tomorrow, but decide to study more today for it. It seems harmless, so you decide to accept. Picking up your phone again, you click on the notification.

Cai Xukun: [hey (y/n) :) wanna hang out at the coffee place tomorrow after school?]

[(: sure, meet after school at the lobby]: (y/n)

Cai Xukun: [aw great! see you there ;)]

You head to bed, wondering what the next day will be like.

Looking in the mirror, you fix your hair slightly. You're at the school bathroom and its last period. Seven minutes later, you'll be heading to the coffee shop with Xukun. Although he's only a friend currently, you feel like you should probably look a bit better. Turning, you hear the bell ring, and you quickly head to your locker to grab your things. You feel the ever-so-familiar tap on your shoulder. But before you can turn, a pair of hands covers your eyes. "Guess who!!" a voice asks. "Haha, Xukun I know it's you!!" you say, removing his hands. He laughs as you grab the last of your things.

You walk with him to the shop, and you talk about casual things. Schoolwork, home and what you'll order.

Sitting at one of the booths, you scroll through social media again. Xukun walks over to you and sits down, now holding both of your drinks. Handing you yours, he smiles. You take it and thank him. You slide over and he sits down next to you. You put your phone down slowly. You talk with him, and the topic of your past comes up. "Why did you suddenly move here?" Xukun asked you quietly. "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to but..." he finished. "Oh no! It's okay. I...At my old house, there-there was a fire." you say slowly. Kun's expressions changed from casual to worrying. "M-my grandmother died in that fire. My parents are still at the old city, and I came here after my brother." you whisper, feeling tears beginning to well up in your eyes. "Oh my god," he says, looking at you. "I'm sorry," he says apologetically. "No, it's fine. I had to tell you sometime anyway."

You assure Kun that it's okay, and he wasn't wrong to ask. "So, why did you ask me to come anyway?" you ask softly, peering into his eyes. "Oh - I just.. wanted to spend some time with you!" he said, forcing a smile. "Xukun? Are you okay?" you ask worriedly, seeing the look in his eyes. "I..."

Cai Xukun's POV

Should I tell her? Will she accept me? The real reason I invited (y/n) here was because... I started to feel- attractions toward her. I'm not sure if she feels the same, but I just wanted to spend time with her and be with her. The fear of rejection is deep in my heart and I remember the pain in the past.

"No, I'm fine (y/n)," I say joyfully, rearranging my face into a more genuine smile. "Okay, that's good." she says, her beautiful features relaxing. As we finish the last of our drinks, she suggests that we go here again tomorrow. I nod gratefully, happy for extra time with her. She stands up and I follow, walking behind her to the exit. We walk back to our houses, and on the way, she worms her hand into mine.

Laying in bed, I stare at the ceiling. I check my phone and see that it's 2:43am. I need to sleep. I came back with (y/n) at 4pm, and I've been in my room for the whole evening. Frick, I just can't get her out of my mind -

You don't need to be awake, Xukun. It's not going to be the same. It'll be better. It'll be different from last time...

I sit up slowly. There's no possible way for me to be able to sleep now. I pull on a sweatshirt over my bare chest and sit at my desk, holding my head in my hands. Xukun, you can't do this. Awake because of a girl? No. You're just afraid that it would turn into last time - I pick up my phone and open my conversation with (y/n).

Cai Xukun: [i love you.] |deleted

I drop my phone on my bed and pull off my sweatshirt. I really need sleep. After all, I still have school tomorrow. Smoothing my hair back gently, I close my eyelids and fall into the world of sleep.

Your POV

You're shaken awake by your brother, Linong. You quickly do your morning routine and rush to school.

Smiling, you meet Becca at the doors as you enter. During first period you find out that your permanent partner is Xukun, and you happily spend another period with him. But you feel like something's wrong, because he's not his usual happy self. There are also dark circles under his eyes. "Kunkun, what's wrong?" you ask him for the third time, but he gives you the same answer. "(y/n), I told you, I'm fine," he says to you, but you place your hand on his arm. "I know you're not okay, Kun." you say firmly. "Cai Xukun, I'm here for you, and you can tell me if you have any problems." you finish. "I...It's not really something that you can help," he says after a long pause. He declines any further comment on this, and you give up, but interacting with him more softly and gently.

After first period, you head to your locker. Someone calls your name and you turn to see Justin, Xukun's friend.

"Hello (y/n), I'm Justin. You might know me, I'm in some of your classes."

You politely say hello, wondering why he would come to you.

"Well, I came here today because...Kunkun seems a little bit..different. Being his girlfriend, do you think you know what happened?" His girlfriend? Wha-

"I-I'm not his girlfriend yet-" you stutter.

"Oh you aren't? I'm so sorry-" Justin says, an apologetic look surfacing on his face. "It's fine," you say calmly.

"Well you two would look really cute with each other anyways-" Justin mutters. "Well, being his friend, do you think you would know anything?" he says louder, coughing.

"I uh..I tried to ask him many times but..I don't know, anything much yet. Only that he entered this attitude when we were at the coffee shop yesterday." you say, and Justin's eyes light up.

"You two were at the coffee shop yesterday?" he asks curiously.

"Yeah, but what does that have to do with -" "Okay thanks (y/n), but I have to go, bye!" Justin tells you quickly as he runs down the hallway.

That was strange. You thought as you saw Justin disappear into the massacre of students. But when he mentioned that Cai was your boyfriend...you felt...

Am I starting to like him?

The thoughts in your mind for the rest of the day were about Cai Xukun. His hair, his smile, his laugh. You were going crazy. Really?! Wasn't my goal this year to focus on studies?

3rd person

The door opens and Cai Xukun comes into the cafeteria. He sits down next to Zhu Zhengting and Justin, deep in conversation. They break away when they see him coming. "Hey, Kun! What took you so long?" Zhenging says enthusiastically, slapping his hand on his friend's shoulder.

Kun mutters something inaudible.

Zhengting and Justin exchange glances

"Xukun, what's wrong? Is it that girl?" Wang Ziyi asks from behind Justin.

Xukun whispers something and Justin nods.

"You've been getting holed up over that girl again aren't you, Kunkun? Are you thinking about (y/n)? And Liqi?" Zhengting says, softer.

"Because it will be different. (y/n) is better. It won't end up like that." he finishes.

Cai Xukun makes no movement in response to this. He sits there, face down, hands on his neck.
