𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞

You watch Xukun with his friends as he smiles and laughs with them. He turns and sees you watching, and you quickly avert your eyes back to your friends, deep in conversation. A girl walks up to him and asks him something, and you watch his reaction intently. His brow furrows and he smiles politely and shakes his head. The girl nods and turns away to go back to her friends. He turns back to talk to Yanjun as if this happened to him a lot. You think and realize that he is a popular boy in the school and that many girls must like him. You turn to watch him again sadly. Yanjun says something and he laughs, his cute smile visible to you.

It's Becca's voice that snaps you out of your trance.
"(y/n)? Hello?" she says, gently shaking your shoulder.

"Oh! Hey, sorry Becca," you say with an apologetic smile.

"It's fine lmao. I was just asking; do you want to have a sleepover tonight at my house?" she said, eyes brightening.

"Hmm, I'm pretty sure I can, because I have nothing else today, so sure!" you say, after a moment's consideration.

You spoke more in the conversation, paying attention, until the lunch bell rang. You and your friends stood up for the next period, which for you, was P.E. You and your friends all went to your separate lockers, and just as you were walking to the end of the hallway to your locker, you hear someone shout your name. You turn, and see Fan Cheng Cheng running to you, being chased by Xukun.

"(y/n)! (y/n)!" Cheng Cheng shouts, as Xukun grabbed the hem of his shirt to stop him from getting to you.

Most of the people had already gotten their things and headed to the change rooms, leaving only a few people left, thankfully.

Cheng Cheng skids to a stop in front of you, panting and breathless.

"(y/n)! Xukun just said that he likes y-"

Xukun puts his hand on Cheng Cheng's mouth quickly, stopping him from saying more.

But the meaning had already gotten across...

You stand awkwardly with Cheng Cheng and Cai, his hand still resting on Cheng Cheng's shirt. Xukun's face reddens and he shifts, embarrassed. But you're still processing what Cheng Cheng said. Xukun told his friends that he likes you...

"So, I guess I'll be going then-" you say after an awkward silence.
"Yeah, sure, see you in class..." Xukun replies, as you close your locker and the pair head off.

You see Xukun talking to Cheng Cheng, and the latter chuckling gently. You head off to the change rooms, hurriedly checking your watch on the way.

~time skip~

You walk beside Xukun and sit behind him, in preparation for the P.E. game. Xukun asked you to partner with him again, and you accepted. Today's game was a game you played in pairs. As he sits down in front of you, your teacher starts to explain the rules.

A question will be shown on the board. When the whistle is blown, those sitting in front can run up to the button and press it. The first nine who press it will get a chance to answer. For those that get the question wrong or didn't hit the button, their partners will receive a punishment. Please look at this demonstration of the punishment. A thin metal plate will fall on the person's head. But don't worry, this is completely safe.

Cai nods, and you look out at everybody else. They're in startup, getting-ready poses, while Xukun looks very relaxed. You don't feel very nervous, but when the whistle is blown, Xukun makes no move to try and press the button. He stays in his chair. You watch, dumbfounded, as everyone else rushes for the buttons. The ones who clicked the buttons try to answer, and the teacher counts down to the punishment. You brace yourself, putting your hands on top of your head and close your eyes, but when you open them again, you feel nothing. What? Is mine broken or something? You don't know what's happened, and pretend like you received the punishment normally.
