I cannot believe that finally, everything is working out for me.
I will be graduating this month, I got my own car and this amazing job not a temporary internship but a permanent job. This opportunity is so important for me and my career ahead.
Part of me is ecstatic but part of me is anxious that somehow I am going to mess this up.
I dress up wearing my black pencil skirt and a blue button-down shirt with a little makeup my straight black hair is pinned to the back.
In the driveway of my apartment when I am getting in my car my building's guard looks at me with amazement. It's Hyundai Accent 2014 model......there is nothing about this car to brag about but still, I am delighted.
Drive to the work is smooth and short.
I reach 10 mins early and just when I was about to get out of my car my phone rings "where the hell are you?"Amy shouts on the speaker
"I am __ "
"Why are you not on the campus?"
"I am at work I mean I got a new job so I will not be attending ___"
"You got a job when? And why didn't you tell me this? Does Cheryl know? I am telling you if you told her first then don't talk to me"
she goes on in her high pitched voice
"If you would let me finish"
"Yeah sorry I got excited"
"You are the first one I told this and I just got this offer yesterday," I tell her
" congratulations I am so happy for you
but what did you say 'a job'?
"Yeah, a job not an internship but a job how cool is that".
" when?"
"Liam helped me to get this"
"Liam? John's friend Liam how do you know him?" she questions
I check the time I don't have time to do this now
"Long story, I will tell you later, getting late bye" I hang up
In the elevator, a young woman probably my age is standing with her hand's fold looks at me and asks "new here?" With a wide smile
"Yeah, first day" I reply smiling. She is a tall brunette with a body that every girl wish to have
"My name is Amanda".
"I am Rhea nice to meet you" elevator stops and we get out
"Let me guess you are Liam Carter's new assistant?"
"Guessed right"
"I am the sales manager here, he told me about you and he was right you are really gorgeous "
"He said what?" He thinks I am gorgeous why would he say that to her and why the hell all of a sudden my cheeks feel warmer
" oh you have no idea girl," she says and walks to her desk
What does that mean
I don't have an idea? About what?
I walk up to my desk and switch on my laptop when
"where is my coffee?"
Liam is hovering over my desk with his hands in his pockets.
"I didn't know I was supposed to bring your coffee. Sorry I will get it now" I
stand up and he starts laughing
"I was kidding Rhea don't be nervous it's just first day it's fine, relax"
how he is so charming and optimistic.
"When did you get here?" He asks
"Just now"
"You should catch up on this new CSR activity. All the details are already there on the official website and let me know when you are done with that okay?"
He asks in a bossy tone
"Yes sir. Anything else you want me to do sir?" I say emphasizing sir
His lips twitch to fight a smile "first do this" he says and walks into his office.
In my lunch hour, Liam asked me if I wanted to have my lunch with him and I obviously said yes. we decided to go to a nearby restaurant which he claimed have amazing snacks.
We ordered cheeseburgers and few french fries
"Mhmm it's good," I mumble
"Yeah it is," he says
he is messaging someone since we came here and I don't know why I am curious to know that who is he talking to smiling so widely
"Is someone sending you hilarious jokes?" I ask jokingly, couldn't stop myself from asking this
"What? Nooo, its john we were discussing something"
"Oh, how is he doing?"
I am such a horrible friend I should have asked him about his first day. I meant to do it yesterday
"He is your friend too you should know"
"Yeah I know I haven't even told Cheryl about this job so I wanted her to know first but if I talk to John then I will not be able to hold this news"
"You overanalyze things a lot it's okay no one is judging you" he smiles
"I try not to," I say smiling back at him
"Try harder"
I will promise myself
He offered to pay but I wouldn't allow it I want to pay my own bills that is why I was so desperate to get a job so I shouldn't have to ask my father for money or anyone
When we get back I immediately jump to complete my research and before I know my first day is over.
When I reach my car my phone rings
"Rhea you have to come here Cheryl fell from stairs, her parents are out of town and she is hurt"
Aahh it hurts Cheryl screams in the background
"Call ambulance I will be right there"
when I get there Amy is already on the gate which leads inside their big house. She looks tensed I run toward her praying that Cheryl is okay
"What happened?"
She hugs me and covers my eyes with a black cloth.
What the...
"What's going on Amy?"
"Nothing just shh"
And she walks me toward the door when I hear
"Surprise"
