"We're here."
The two boys were standing in front of Seonghwa's home, the elder fumbling to find his keys as Yeosang took in the appearance of the small, beautiful house. It was painted a midnight blue, with a white outline and a small garden in front on each side of the walk path. The house was surrounded by a black metal fence that needed a key to unlock. Unfortunately, Seonghwa still couldn't find the keys to the gate so the two boys remained outside.
"I swear I tossed them in here-" Seonghwa mumbled as he digged through his bookbag.
"Looking for these?" The soft voice of an older woman called from inside the property. The two boys faced towards the house and spotted the owner of the voice, hand on her hip and the other jiggling what must have been Seonghwa's keys.
"I could've sworn I had them," Seonghwa laughed as he zipped up his book bag and slung it over his shoulder. Yeosang continued to watch the two interact without moving, afraid to break the seemingly nice atmosphere having not mentioned Yeosang's first appearance in the Park's home.
"Well you must have thrown them somewhere in your room since you were in such a hurry this morning." Mrs. Park walked down the few stair steps they had and over towards the boys, opening the gate for them.
"You heard me and saw me struggling and couldn't bother to come open the door for us sooner?" Seonghwa frowned playfully as his mother laughed. She shook her head and let the boys walk in.
"So when are you planning on introducing me to your friend here?" Mrs. Park gestured towards Yeosang who hadn't even mustered the courage to greet the woman.
"Ah, sorry. Mom, this is Yeosang. Yeosang, this is mom, Mrs. Park, ma'am, woman, whatever suits you." Seonghwa quickly introduced.
"Kang Yeosang," Yeosang held his hand out for her to shake and smiled shyly. Mrs. Park cooed at the boy internally before she took his hand and shook it firmly. He could've sworn he felt his shoulder crack-
"Nice to meet you, Yeosang." She smiled warmly.
Once the introducing was over, the three humans stepped inside the small home. Mrs. Park returned to the kitchen to finish cooking as the two boys stayed behind to take off their shoes.
"Your house is so pretty," Yeosang whispered to Seonghwa once he finished taking his shoes off. The two boys stood by the door as they took in the appearance of the interior. "So elegant yet simple." Yeosang continued.
"Your house is nice, too," Seonghwa replied.
"We both know you're lying," Yeosang glared at the elder. Seonghwa laughed. He grabbed Yeosang by his sleeve unexpectedly and ran up towards his room. The sudden action caused Yeosang to almost trip over his own feet but continued to keep up as if nothing had occurred. Mrs. Park had been cutting up carrots when the pair of boys ran pass her. She placed the knife down and grabbed the closest rag around to clean her hands as she walked around the counter.
"Are you boys okay?" She called. Surprisingly, there was no reply on the first call until she tried again. "Hwa?"
"We're fine, mom!" Her son replied. The woman looked up towards the stairs as she blinked multiple times at once. She debated whether she should've gone up and checked on them or not, but in reality, she didn't care what they were up to. As long as her son was safe and happy, there was nothing she had to worry about. He sounded like he was having fun, so she shrugged it off and went back to cutting carrots.
The two boys dived onto Seonghwa's queen size bed and sighed in relief once they had made it to his room. They laid there, staring at the ceiling, letting their giggles cease until one was ready to speak up again.
