Dear Gilbert,

I'm so very glad you were able to secure a position as a coal trimmer. It sounds mighty thrilling to be aboard such a magnificent vessel. Do you often get to go above and see the ocean? I imagine it must be breathtaking.

The boarders at Green Gables do well. A bit odd if you ask me, though. Nate is a geologist who works for a large company in the United States. Mr. Dunlop bakes aplenty. I think Anne is catching pastry fever.

In regards to pastry, The Campbell's have been wonderful to me. I so enjoy working for them. Oh, and the most beautiful lupin bush stands just out front the bakery. I did a bit of cultivating during the spring and the blooms have simply thrived.

I can't help but wonder what marvelous flowers you must be seeing abroad. I hope you can use your extensive knowledge of words to describe them to me.

Warm regards,

Penelope S.

"I'm off, Mrs. Campbell,"

"Have a wonderful night, dear! And please call me Ethel!"

"Yes, ma'am,"

Penny hummed softly to herself as she set towards Green Gables. The summer breeze was cooling into a beautiful autumn wind. The flowers were in bloom and everything was calm and Penelope was sure she hadn't been happier in a very long time.

She still had nightmares. Sometimes so bad she woke screaming. But she was quick to discover the comfort that those closest to her could bring. A reassuring hug from Anne or a doting hair stroking from Ruby was efficient in soothing her back into the reality that she was safe. She was free.

Despite the overly generous offer of home from the Cuthbert's, Penny had found herself as more of a wayward traveller in her town of Avonlea. If not only to lighten the financial burden on Green Gable but to prove to herself that she had a whole town beside her. Anne was still an ever present, offering her bed nearly every night, she had also taken to sporadically spending nights at the Gillis' per Ruby's request and Diana, whom she had grown closer to, also offered her dinner with her family weekly. It also seemed as though the Campbell's had grown rather fond and offered her dinner and a warm place to sleep every day after work and Mrs. Campbell had even taken a particular joy in sewing dresses for her when the woman had seen Penelope beginning to grow out of her own.

Life was simply astounding.

For now.

Penelope shook her head rapidly, forcing the ugly thoughts from her head and turning to the beauty of nature around her once more as she trudged closer to Green Gables.

"Penelope!"

And what better way to get out of her own mind than to pick at the mind of one of the most intelligent people she knows.

"Anne! Anne?! What happened to you? You're drenched," Penelope had to double take as she looked to her red-haired friend. The girl was soaked head to toe, her brown dress sticking tightly to her legs.

"Oh, you won't believe it, Penelope. I've just been on the most grand adventure," Anne held an arm out to her as she grinned excitedly. Another habitude, Penny was quick to discover that she was learning to accept further physical contact; however it was of utmost importance that she be the one to initiate it. As learned from Anne once grabbing her shoulder in excitement and Penny flinching so harshly she nearly dropped the pan she was holding.

"You will have to tell me all about it," Penny grinned back, slipping her hand through Anne's extended arm.

"The woods orchestrated the most whimsical piece for me. The most beautiful music. And I met the most enlightened tree,"
