19 MARCH 2017
"you're still in pain?" sam laughed when he saw his soulmate wince on the couch. cartia shifted herself into a more comfortable position - practically laying over natasha and steve's legs - while she nodded with a pout.
"it's been, what... a day and a half?" tony asked, walking in with a glass of whiskey.
"about that." peter nodded in confirmation, sitting next to the older man and leaning into his embrace with a proud smirk on his face. "if only she didn't call me bro, huh querido?"
{darling}"it was a general comment!" cartia defended herself yet again, knowing deep down it wouldn't do anything to help, especially as it had already been 'discussed'.
"no." peter smiled at her innocently, making her pout even more. cartia moved her leg so it was draped over the edge of the couch, getting even more comfortable.
the whole group was sitting in the main common room, taking their hour together before bed, as they always do. they liked to have a 'zen hour' as bruce called it, to wind down before they headed to bed. nothing but relaxation and comfort was permitted in that hour. everyone was intertwined with at least one other person, basking in the glory of their love for everyone. everyone had their own drinks, though hardly any of it was alcohol - only tony, nat, bucky and thor had some sort of alcoholic beverage. obviously, the occurrence between cartia and peter was an interesting subject to them.
cartia huffed, turning her attention to the floor to ceiling windows that showed the beautiful view of new york's skyline, the city lit up brightly. even times square was visible from the high tower, and although cartia hadn't been, she could imagine how magical it must have looked at night.
"детка?" bucky called in a soft voice, bringing her out of her trance.
{baby?}"да?"
{yes?}"what're you thinking about so hard that you're scrunching your pretty little face about it?"
cartia ignored the flush on her cheeks as she answered. "just... admiring how beautiful the world really is i guess. sometimes i just sit and think about how crazy it is that everything exists. i like the feeling i get when i think about it."
"like wonder... amazement?"
"it's hard to describe. it makes me emotional sometimes, but a good emotional. i just wish i could see more of it."
"you will." tony tells her. "you can see whatever you want to see. think about the northern lights? off to norway. eiffel tower? paris is a fast journey on the quinjet. whatever you want, right at your fingertips. just say the words."
"i know. thank you." she smiles a genuine smile at tony, before it begins to falter as her mind wanders. "what if i don't get to see everything i want to?"
"why wouldn't you?"
"accidents can happen."
"not when you're with us, they don't. apart from you tripping over your own feet, i don't think any form of protection can prevent that." wanda makes the joke to lighten to conversation slightly.
"little one, the last thing we want is for you sitting her wondering about your death. don't think about that. think about the future, of course, but live here, in the now." thor advises her. "trust me. if i thought of my future back when i was a young boy, i would have never imagined this. the future is unpredictable, but it will always be good."
"as yes, the good ol' days some 1500 years ago." nat teases with her signature smirk. thor looks at her with his own, raising the glass to his lips and drinking it as he stares into her eyes, not once looking away. cartia smiled to herself and let her mind wander back to the state of pure wonder, admiring the beauty of the life around her, both in the tower and outside.
her eyes flickered upwards, towards the stars. blocking out the sound of her soulmates talking quietly amongst themselves, she let her mind roam free, staring up at space. before long, she spoke, not really caring who she was interrupting, the only thing on her mind was the vast empty space up above.
"can we go sit on the roof? please?"
twenty minutes later, the group of twelve sat under several blankets in front of a fireplace, all drinks replaced with hot chocolate and fun campfire snacks scattered all over the place. cartia's idea sparked a lot of excitement in the group, and everyone was eager to spend some fantastic quality time together underneath the small, yet actually large, balls of light in the sky. the night air was slightly breezy, but not uncomfortably so. the kind that made you just want to snuggle further into a blanket, but not enough to make your teeth chatter or body shiver. for march in new york city, over 1000 feet above the ground, it was surprisingly 'warm'. the young king girl sighed in content, allowing herself to relax and settle into the arms of the god of thunder.
thor was staring at loki, as the two brothers seemed to somehow communicate non-verbally, as if trying to come to a solution, however the blonde was pulled from their 'chat' when he felt a drip on his arm. he tilted his head up to see if it was beginning to rain, but became confused when another hit his arm when there appeared to be none in the sky. it wasn't until he heard a small sniffle come from his young soulmate that he realised they were coming not from the sky, but her eyes.
"what's wrong, my love?" he whispered to her, not wanting to draw more attention to the seemingly upset girl.
"i don't think i'm sad. i don't know. it's like what i said inside, my thoughts make me emotional, but in a good way. it's just so... wow." thor chuckled a breathy laugh, his arms tightening gently around the girl's small frame as he pulled her closer to him.
"indeed, it is very wow." he kissed her temple as he wiped her tears, looking back at his soul-brother, as they both came to an agreement and nodded their heads at each other simultaneously. turning his head, thor felt an untameable smile come to his face as he admired the rest of his soulmates. his soulmates. such wonderful, if slightly broken and damaged, people. people who all worked with each other, making each other happy no matter the circumstances. people who always loved one another in tandem, living together in complete bliss and harmony as the world moved on around them.
"you will always be the brightest star in my sky." he whispered to the soulmate wrapped securely in his arms.
•••
it's short, i know, but... wow.
i hate to toot my own horn, but i feel really really good about this chapter. like, i tried to use words that were sophisticated yet beautiful, and i think i did pretty well. i'm proud of it, if i dare say so. i just think the universe is so special, and so wondrous and... incredible. even in my own little bubble, it just seems so amazing that i can't wait to go out and explore the world.
i hope you're all doing great, thank you so much for 400k. i can't say how much it means to me, but i can say that i love you all so much.
