Funny how something so trivial could make you fall madly, deeply and hopelessly in love with someone. The way Toby's lips twist into a slight frown or a small timid smile while reading a book, how he hums softly while listening to a familiar tune, and how she makes her smile contentedly just by existing on the same space as her.
Toby was occupying the small sofa on his room; he was laying with his eyes close and a thick blanket covering his body. It was the third day after his last chemotherapy, his body was responding well according to Dr. Morris, but still wasn't strong enough to return back to school. Although school will officially end in three weeks, Toby was no longer required to attend classes. The boy passed the advance exams with flying color, now, all he has to do was to wait for the day of their graduation.
Luna had been busy for the last three days, she went to UCLA along with Caleb, and Lexus. Although she was late for the entrance exam, their parents manage to get a slot for her. But she still wasn't sure about attending college, not when Toby would be left alone here in Oakwood without her.
"Hey buddy," Luna muttered softly, her fingertips brushing lightly against Toby face. Tracing every detail of his features, the small mole under his chin, his perfectly pointed nose, even the sunken cheeks that was more evident now and the large dark bags under his eyes. Luna wanted to remember, every nook and canny of his very existence.
Toby opened his eyes slowly, his lashes fluttered gently, as the sight of his warm blue sleepy eyes focuses on her.
"Hey," carefully placing his glasses on his foggy eyes, Luna smiled sweetly at him.
"Hey," he muttered, voice rasped from sleeping soundly for what felt like an eternity, when in reality, Toby just slept for two hours. Toby had to take his medicine, that's why even though it pained her to wake him up when he barely slept, Luna had not much choice.
"You need to take your meds," Luna placed the small vial on his lap, watching a slight frown appeared on his face. He hated medicines, she knew it by now. Toby preferred the meds being injected on his IV, but there were meds that he still needs to take orally.
Toby picked the yellow pills reluctantly, tossing it into his mouth, followed by a glass full of water.
"Let's get out of here?" He spoke after finishing his meds, a small timid smile plastered on his lips. Luna frowned, remembering what happened the last time they went out.
"You know, we can't, right?"
"Well, we can, as long as it's within the hospital perimeter," Luna could only heaved a sigh, as much as she wanted to take him out of his suffocating room, she was anxious. It's not her place to decide for him, so Luna went to see Dr. Morris while Toby change into warmer clothes. Thankfully, Dr. Morris said yes, like Toby said, as long as they were still within the hospital perimeter, things should be fine.
"Where should we go Captain?" she teased, her hands gripping the wheelchairs handle. Following his instructions like a loyal trouper, Luna stroll the long and dizzying corridor inside the hospital. Navigating based on Toby's instructions, laughing at the silliest thing and greeting everyone along the way. Toby's laughter filling the depressing atmosphere inside the hospital. The nurses looking fondly at him, a look that Luna recognized. They were pleased to see him happy.
"What's in here?" they arrived on the farthest room on the fourth floor, now that she thinks about it, the room was just above Toby's room.
"You'll see," He replied, opening the door before her. The smell of paint filling her senses in no time. Dozens of canvasses scattered inside the room, Luna's eyes wandered in awe. She was not the least interested in arts, but seeing the room filled with colors, a different warmth sweeps her off of her feet, like she had been standing on a completely different world, far from the depressing building that they were in.
