~Evernly

Sobering up from a belly-aching laugh, I wiped an imaginary tear from the corner of my eye and changed the angle of the MacBook as I propped myself up to my elbows. Zac on the other end sobered up too, sighing with content. I was now at a place where I could laugh and mean it, I didn't have to fake anything anymore.

"Anyway, how are you?" Zac asked softly, his face softening. "How is mum and how are the demon twins?"

"I'm fine, everyone is fine, the demon twins are..... well demons." I said, rushing him off while waving my hand dismissively before returning to my original position. "What I want to know is, how is college so far away, aren't you home sick yet?" I asked with a teasing tone, an implication that he should come home hidden between the lines.

"Well, it's just like high school except no parents." Zac hollered, clearly excited about that part. "I mean I have no curfew, and I get to attend classes when I want to and that translated to, 'college is awesome and not at all like high school."

"Be careful you don't fail. Wren will kill you." I warned him, ignoring his very discernible wince for not calling Wren mum. "But what I wanna know more is, how's your sweet pumpkin?" I said wiggling my eyebrows suggestively. It was extremely vexing that Zac still wouldn't tell me her name, to this day I still don't know the girl he followed her halfway across the country for goodness sake, I should at least know her name. And apparently we went to the same school. "Actually what is her name, I seem to forget?"

Zac chuckled just as another person shoved his head in front of the computer screen, completely blocking out Zac. "That girl is something-" The person started but he didn't get to finish his sentence before being pushed out by Zac as he threw a few choice words towards the person who kept laughing in the background.

"Don't mind him, he's just a dumbass." Zac said, focusing back on me, his eyes dancing with excitement. "And you will get to meet her in the fall inauguration, I promise you that. I'll bring her, in fact she will be my date." I squealed and almost fell face first on the MacBook. Zac chuckled and the person came into frame again.

"Since Zac is rude, I might as well introduce myself-" again, the person didn't get to finish talking before being shoved away from the screen, revealing Zac's handsome face looking vexed.

"He's Dylan, my flatmate." Zac said annoyed. Zac twisted his head, I presume to look at the guy I now know as Dylan. "Interrupt me again and I'll put laxatives in your coffee." Zac threatened him, his tone serious. I snorted at him, a piggy sound coming out of my lips, my hand flew to my mouth and I covered it, my face heating up with embarrassment.

"Oh come on," Dylan cooed. "Let me talk to your gorgeous sister. Who knows maybe I'll be your brother-in-law. Think about it, how fun would Thanksgiving be with me around-" I heard shuffling followed by something dropping with a loud thud and then Dylan screaming.

"You open my mouth and it makes it very hard to stay out of jail." Zac grumbled before picking up the laptop then he mumbled 'hold on' to me. I could hear him walking, probably to his room and the click of the door confirmed it. Zac sat me down before I saw his frame and he sat down too.

"Your friend is nice." I said, teasing him. Zac's face made me burst out laughing after I said it, he was truly displeased about it. "I'm sorry, mean flatmate." I corrected myself still laughing at Zac.

Zac gave me a pointed look but after a while, I got tired and we moved to something new. "So are you ready to go back to the general population a.k.a school?" Zac asked, although he tried to sound casual about it, I heard his concern and hesitation. I sighed and nodded.

"I guess," I told Zac, my tone exasperated about the thought but I knew I couldn't stay hidden forever. "After two weeks of no school, I think I'll be fine going back but to test myself, I've been going out you know, I went to lunch with Sage the other day, his friends joined us and today Veronica and I are going to do our nails and hair. Dr Lahey said since I'm feeling better I should get out more because sitting at home would be counter productive so I guess next week, I'll start attending class again." I explained to Zac, who listened and nodded even though hesitation was written all over his face. I wonder if Zac knew how he looked to me.
