~ Evernly

A sudden movement in my peripheral combined with chime-like sound brought me out of my trance of deep thought.

Blinking rapidly, I tried to focus back on the present. "Huh!" I said, both my eyebrows raised as I looked at Kira expectedly waiting for her to say something.

Kira heaved a heavy sigh moving back to her sitting position. "I'm talking to myself, am I?" Kira mused more so to herself than me.

"Huh?" I asked before my mind finally caught on. "Oh, I'm sorry. I guess I'm not useful today." I told Kira rubbing my eyes as I did so. "I have quite a bit on my mind."

I had no idea why I told this girl I barely knew that. It slipped out I guess.

"Wanna talk about it?" Kira suggested closing her notebook along with Jane Austen's greatest book.

I gazed at the Asian girl sitting opposite of me contemplating whether or not to confide in her. I didn't know Kira, I met her about a week ago. So you can see my conundrum but perhaps that's why I should confide in her. Kira didn't know about me and Harry. She didn't know about our history, what happened between us so maybe kira was the perfect person to talk to.

"Well?" Kira urged.

"Umm, I caught Harry in a lie the other day...." I started but Kira cut me off.

"Whose Harry?" Kira asked.

"Oh sorry... Umm... Harry is.... Ummm..." I stumbled over my own words. I couldn't find any word to describe what Harry was to me in my vocabulary. Harry and I were not friends, that much was clear but we were not dating either. "A friend, I guess... Ummm we kissed so it's complicated and weird."

Especially since neither Harry and I will bring up the kiss and talk about it. We danced around it, avoiding it by flirting. Not to mention that Dr Leahy specifically told me no, not to get involved with Harry at this moment.

"Ahh like every relationship out there. Got it." Kira stated nodding repeatedly to herself. She gave me a thumbs up. "The lie?"

"Oh yeah. So the other day we were supposed to hang out but Harry stood up so when I called his work they said that he already left but then when I asked him he said an emergency situation came up at work so he forgot to text and let me mind you I called his work after I realised he was late then he has the audacity to show up at my house at two in the morning saying he's sorry."

"What did he say when you confronted him?"

"I didn't." I sighed heavily. "I kissed him instead." I told Kira.

Kira burst out laughing. People at the library simultaneously shushed her which I appreciate.

I tried to hide my red face. "So what do you think I should do? I mean we're not dating so I don't know what the protocol is right now."

Sobering up from her laughter, Kira settled down. "Doesn't matter if you're dating or not. The guy stood you up and lied to you about it so confront his ass."

"You think so?" I asked, my whole face lifting up.

"Yeah of course." Kira encouraged me and kept on talking trash about Harry and men in general. I laughed at some remarks because Kira is funny.

We ended up not going back to writing our papers after that. We packed up and left the library after being chastised for making noise. I think if we stayed any longer, we were surely going to be banned and our library cards would be revoked.

"I'm driving back to the city, want me to drop you off somewhere?" I asked Kira, already ransacking my bag for my car keys.

"Nah, I'm just gonna get coffee and go back to my dorm. Hopefully my roommate is at her boyfriend's dorm so I can finish writing my paper."
