To no one's surprise, it was Ban and Meliodas who ended up surrounding you with pints of ale, trying their darndest to get you to drink. Dabi was off in the corner, snorting softly the longer you refused.
You'd made it through 19 years of life without drinking, and you would be darned if your first experience with alcohol would be in the middle of a get together with people you barely knew, in a place, you didn't know, as you were being peer pressured by two men...
Sure, these two seemed okay, but the whole situation was wonky. With every pint they basically dropped in front of you, you looked at it blankly, fighting a grin as the other got mad and swiped up the drink, draining it quickly. Some may say that a situation like this would be irritating, but you were having the time of your life.
It wasn't like they were going to force you to drink, and the way they kept slur fighting about who got to give you your first drink was hilarious. For a good moment, you got to sit back and just... exist.
There was no one yelling to capture you, no overly violent guards, and no sneezing. it was comfortable. Dabi passed out about twenty minutes into the party, quite clearly exhausted by something- likey the constant stress of having to deal with his ride disappearing- Hagakure was barley conscious, being propped up against Diane's leg as she softly sang and drank deeply out of her large cup, and everyone else was quickly falling unconscious as well.
Even Meliodas and Ban, who probably drank their own body weight in alcohol through the night were on the ground at the base of the table, snoring away loudly as they cuddled their tankards close to their chest.
It had been such a long, fast-paced few days... Though perhaps that was a good thing because it didn't give you time to think about what had happened. Giri. How was it you knew him so well? He had to have some kind of portal quirk, those children disappeared from around you... yet you were able to pass through.
His quirk was purple, so was yours...
He Had yellow eyes- at least, you had to assume the yellow gas you'd seen was his eyes- that was almost the same color as yours.
It was a hard pill to swallow really. You may be relatively oblivious when you were allowed, but you were far from stupid, and this was an easy puzzle. You had to be related to the villainous gas-ball... The question was how? There were options, sure, but the studies you'd read showed a fairly small range of people a quirk could be passed down from. Parents, obviously, and aunts and uncles. Once you started getting further out than that, quirk inheritance was sketchy at best. That meant you were closely related.
And it wasn't like you had other cues to see how you were related. All you had seen was a trim figure in a waistcoat surrounded by gas, it wasn't really peak physical comparison circumstances.
Quietly you stood from the table, and walked to the edge of the clearing, stepping around the passed out people. The moon was full tonight.
As the light from the fire faded slightly, you stared up into the sky and stretched out a hand."Giri?" You said sadly, staring out the large window at the moon. This house was so large and scary, nothing like the castle it seemed like in the daytime. tried not to think about what scary monsters could be hiding in the curtains.
A blue-haired woman stepped from the shadows, frowning slightly at you, which immediately made you cower, seemingly waiting for punishment. "What are you doing awake so late my dear?"
The lady seemed nice, she had smiled so happily at you, even though she had spit-up down her shirt and a sleeping baby strapped to her front, things your mommy used to tell you made mommy's mean and grumpy. "I'm so-sorry." You yelp, hunching in on yourself even more, "I just wanted to look at the moon."
There it was again, that smile. Why was she so happy? You'd never seen someone so happy in your whole life. She stepped forward and knelt next to you, looking out the window as the moon made her glow, "It's pretty tonight, isn't it?" She whispered, "It's like a big... bowl of ice cream in the sky, isn't it?"
A small smile tugged at your lip, that was so silly. "The big one with metal in his arms said that the moon is nothing but a big rock in space." You said quietly, turning back to the window, just missing the frown that touched her face.
"Oh, Tensei said that did he?" She said. There was irritation in her voice that had you flinching, but you tried not to look away from the moon. The lady seemed nice right now... But if that changed, you wanted to be looking at the moon when it did.
"And what do you think it is dear?"
You tapped your lips as you thought about it, something you'd seen Mommy do millions and millions of times when she was trying to think, "That's easy!" It really was, though tapping your lips must've made it even easier, "Giri told me that when the moon is big and full like this, he's keeping an eye on me and making sure mommy's behaving."
You missed the look of sadness in her eyes as she moved forward, but you couldn't miss the hug.
For a moment you froze and your breathing sped up. This was it, something bad was going to happen. What did you do wrong? Was it being out of your room so late? Mommy hated it when you came out after she told you to go to bed. You got comfortable in the big house with other kids... You shouldn't have done that-
"You're safe now." She murmured quietly against your hair, still wet from the bath, "No one here will ever let you be scared again. You're a part of our family now."
As she stroked through your hair you stood there in shock. She wasn't mad at you... She was so warm. Giri was the last person who hugged you like this, and his hugs were never this warm. You stared at the moon. His way of making sure you were safe.
"Giri." You whispered as quietly as you could, "You were right. I'm safe now."
