"Well... Here we are. Thanks Dewgong," Brandon smiled at his Pokemon.
"Dewgong!" Dewgong replied happily. He recalled her & we looked foward at the island we just landed on.
"Is that a fucking volcano?!" I shrieked. "Yup." There was a volcano on the island. All the people living here must be crazy, I thought.
"Let's quickly get this badge over with. I don't wanna die here," I scoffed.
Of course we had to heal & feed our Pokemon first. After stopping at the Pokemon Center, we stopped at the edge of the island, to eat. Cinnabar was pretty lonely & empty. Probably because of that volcano. Not many people lived there, by the looks of it.
After everyone ate, I gave a prep-talk to my Pokemon. "Alright guys. This is Cinnabar." I gestured to the island we were on. Eevee looked a bit concerned about the volcano. I continued,"We will not be staying here long. In fact, I'm gonna challenge the gym leader right now, because I don't wanna stay on an island with a huge volcano any longer. Who's ready to battle?" I questioned. All my Pokemon cheered. "Good," I smiled.
Brandon & I made our way to the gym. It was empty. The whole island, even the gym was empty. Most gyms had lines of challengers, but not a single person was waiting in line to challenge the gym leader. I'm pretty sure everyone just stopped by for their gym battle, & then got the fuck out of there. That's exactly what I was planning to do.
The battle was a three-on-three. I found myself thinking who I would use as Brandon's first Pokemon appeared. Dratini.
Brandon & his Dratini were getting really close. I think that Dratini & his Growlithe were his two personal favorites.
Speaking of favorites, who was my favorite? Cinder because she was my first? Charcoal because I loved his dedicated attitude? Venus because he was so smart? Relic because he was so calm? Jolt because he was my brother's Pokemon & best friend? Phantom because he showed me the most affection? Eevee because he was just a baby? Or Magikarp, because I had such high hopes of him becoming a Gyarados?
Hmmm. I think I loved all my team the same. I couldn't imagine picking one over the other. "Eevee!" The baby Eevee in my arms cheered for Brandon as the battle finally begun.
Blaine. That was the gym leader's name. He used a Charmeleon first. "Ooh.." I muttered. "Eevee!" My Eevee was pointing at the Charmeleon on the battle field, & then at one of the Pokeballs on my belt. "That's right Eevee, Charcoal is a Charmeleon too, just like that one. That's why they look alike," I explained to him in a soft voice.
The Charmeleon began with Fire Fang. Dratini dodged it & used Bind. That Dratini was fast, I tell you. It dodged just about everything that Charmeleon used. It used that serpent body to it's advantage to slither out of the way & dodge everything.
Dratini used Thunder Wave, paralyzing the Charmeleon & then he finished off with a Slam. I was impressed with how strong Dratini was getting.
Next, Blaine used a Ponyta, & Brandon used Wartortle. Wartortle won. Easily. Water Gun & Bubble. Pretty much the only moves that were used. Ponyta got a good Stomp landed on Wartortle, but his Rapid Spin helped him dodge a lot of moves. For the final battle, (which didn't matter because they were battling best two out of three rounds, meaning Brandon already won) Brandon used his new Ryhorn, & Blaine used an Infernape. This battle went to Blaine. Close Combat took out Ryhorn in just one hit, but Ryhorn did well. His Bulldoze & Rock Blast did good damage, & I think if he had just hung in for a few more seconds, he would have won because Infernape was really tired!
Blaine chuckled & gave Brandon his badge, saying something about him being am excellent trainer. I couldn't agree more. But why was he using such young Pokemon? The Ponyta he used was not very old.
