I gasped.
It was like my plans were trampled under the weight of the universe's evil games.
Leah needs me. I have to be there.
I looked at my reflection in the mirror. Unsurprisingly, my eyes held both perplexity and anxiety.
There's no time to lose.
I hurriedly brushed my scraggly hair and put on a grey cardigan. Fetching the car keys, I staggered down the staircase, gripping the iron railing firmly for support. I drove to her house speedily, constantly using the windshield wiper to clear the foggy glass.
The weather seemed eerie and frightening. Leah's voice rang in my ears, making me jump to the worst of conclusions. Fear slithered down my forehead in the form of beads of perspiration.
Nothing's gonna happen to her.
I assured myself as I parked the car in front of her cyan painted door. I pressed the doorbell with shaky fingers.
The sound deeply annoyed me, as it mingled with the sound of rain and thunder.Dammit Leah, open the door.
After what felt like an eternity, the door opened to reveal Leah's inscrutable countenance.
"Are you okay?" I whispered under my breath, resisting the urge to embrace her.
"I am perfectly fine Blake. Come inside, or you'll get drenched," She motioned me to follow her inside. The vagueness in her attitude terrified me. She didn't bother to speak anything on the way to her room. Not even a single word. All I could hear in the silent chaos was the faint sound of our footsteps on the wooden staircase. Quick, tensed footsteps.
"Just tell me what happened, okay?" I grabbed her by the shoulders.
She shrugged me away.
"As if you are unaware. As if you are unaware of your indifferent attitude. I need answers Blake," She spoke breathlessly, her eyes holding immense pain and hurt.
"Hold on. Is that the reason why you called me here? Do you have any freaking idea how scared I-"
"Idea? I have no idea Blake. I have no idea why you are doing this to me. I really don't." She trailed off, letting the tears slowly roll down her crimson cheeks.
I sat on the couch and scratched my head in exasperation. "Leah, never do this again. Never. Do you even know what I had to go through when I heard your frightened voice? The little ride to your house was a herculean task for me. "
"Why do you even care, Blake? If I had not made up the whole 'I am scared' thing, are you sure that you would still have been here? Your negligence is steadily killing me from inside, and you talk about idea?" She blurted out as tears trickled down her cheeks.
"Leah, look. I don't want to talk about this right now. Please-"
"No Blake. You can't run away this time," She interrupted. "Tell me what's happening. Please Blake please," Her voice became softer with every word.
