DEVYN ANXIOUSLY SHIFTED FROM ONE FOOT TO THE OTHER as her mother and aunt went on about the dos and don'ts of their camping trip to the Great Smoky Mountains. The longest list of rules and regulations that the two women could come up with and agree on.

She shivered a bit. The sun had gone back into hiding from earlier, causing the late-morning, Monday air to grow colder as the wind blew. Devyn had hoped that the day would be a warm one like all the others, but had been sadly disappointed when she'd come out of the house that morning.

Devyn exchanged a look with her younger sister as their mother spoke. "...and no sex, please. I'm too young to be a grandma," Camille Sinclair said.

The youngest, Shaela, visibly cringed at her mother's outspokenness, while Caleb let out a groan. Devyn's cheeks flushed red, causing Landon to laugh at his cousin's visible embarrassment.

"Ma, don't worry." Caleb drapes an arm over Camille's shoulders, attempting to convince her that they'd be just fine. "We'll keep a close eye on the girls," Caleb says, motioning between him and Landon.

It was Devyn's turn to roll her eyes. The girl was a bit annoyed that her brother would be coming with them to the mountains. The boy had maintained his reservations about going on the trip for weeks before quickly changing his mind at the last minute. She wasn't sure why, but she just assumed it was because he wanted to kill any fun they might even think of having.

"Do you have to go?" Shaela sassed causing Caleb to just glare back at her.

"Yes, he does. We're not sending you camping for a week without someone watching you," Marjorie said.

"Listen and listen good because I refuse to repeat myself. Caleb and Landon are in charge," Marjorie said, eye Leighanne, Shaela, and Devyn. "Whatever they say goes and that's final."

Caleb stuck his tongue out at his siblings behind their mother and aunt's backs. Devyn went to return the favor, too distracted to notice that her mother was now looking at her. "Devinity Quinn, that goes for you especially."

Devyn looked back towards her mother, her face holding surprise, as if she hadn't been expecting her mother to call her out. "Why me? I don't do anything."

Her mother and aunt's facial expressions were serious, causing the girl to almost shrink in her spot. Their eyes pierced her entire being, causing her mouth to glue itself shut. Caribbean moms were scary. Hell, all moms were.
