Beauty Standards

"So you're mom walked in on you guys and thought you guys were.. You know?" Jennie asked.

"Yes... " Minjiu replied covering her face in her arms.

"That's horrible. Oh my gosh... " Jennie hid her face in her hands as she quietly laughed.

"Why are you laughing at my pain? You don't understand how mad he is at me."

"I'm not specifically laughing at your pain. Just at your moms and Taehyungs reaction. It cracks me up a little bit."

Minjiu cracked a smile before laughing a little bit. Although it seemed totally unrealistic, it was pretty funny.

"But hey, be glad Taehyung isn't in any of our classes. Only lunch. You barely even see him then, " Jennie said, patting Minjiu on the back. Minjiu agreed.

At lunch, Minjiu was careful with where she looked in the cafeteria. She didn't want to make any eye contact with Taehyung.

"Did you see him?" Jennie asked as she sat down with her lunch.

"No. I'm scared to look up just incase he makes a surprise attack. Very unlikely, though."

10 minutes went by. There was no sign of Taehyung anywhere. Minjiu sighed a sigh of relief.

"I guess he didn't come to school today. That's good. Now, if I convince my mom to never talk to him or his mom again we'll be-" All of a sudden, Minjiu felt a tap on her back. Jennie quickly hid her face.

"Give this to your mom. Don't ask, and don't read it."

Minjiu's heart dropped. She slowly turned around to see Taehyung holding a note in his hand. The cafeteria went silent.

"You shi- Take it!"

Minjiu quickly grabbed the note out of Taehyungs hand and turned back around. Taehyung walked away without another word. Whispers and laughs filled the cafeteria.

Minjiu looked down at the note and read it, even though she knew that she wasn't supposed to. It read:

Naera! Thanks for the great afternoon last Friday. I'd be texting you this, but my phone broke when I got home. I don't know what happened. I asked Taehyung and he didn't say nothing. That sneaky muchkin. Anyways, give me a call soon in a few days! Hopefully my phone will be good as new. With all love, Naera.

Minjiu smiled as she read the note. Although she hated Taehyung, she loved his mother.

"What's the note say?" Jennie asked.

"Not much, just a message from Taehyungs mom saying thanks for inviting them over. Not sure why he didn't want me to read it though," Minjiu replied, getting up to throw her food away.

"Here, mom. Taehyung said to give this to you. I think it's from his mom, " Minjiu said, giving the note to her mother. "Hey, is it okay if I go down to the park today with Jennie? We were going to study a little bit down there if that's fine."

"Thanks, hon! And sure, just be back before nine since you have school in the morning." Minjiu left the living room and went into her room to change clothes. Afterwards, she left the house to go meet Jennie.

"You made it! I didn't think you were going to be able to come, " Jennie said, putting her phone back in her pocket.

"Yeah. I just told my mom that we were going to study. Glad that I'm out of the house now. Let's go sit at that bench over there, I'm already tired from walking."

Jennie and Minjiu both walked over to a little bench in the park. It was surrounded by trees, and in front of it was a big fountain.

"We should come here more often. It's super nice here. Hey, can you take a picture for me? You're literally so good at taking them." Jennie handed her phone to Minjiu as she striked a pose.

"There you go! Oh my gosh, you look perfect, Jennie!"

"Awe, stop! I'm blushing, " Jennie said. "You're still so pretty. No one cares about beauty standards, you know?"

"That's nice coming from a pretty girl, but imagine it coming from a boy. All that boys want is a skinny body, no acne, long hair, all this unrealistic stuff. And here I am, with the total opposite," Minjiu said, looking down at her feet.

"Stop bringing yourself down. Your beautiful, Minjiu."

Minjiu knew that even though Jennie fit all of Koreas beauty standards, she'd still never take advantage of it.

"Hey, I need to go to the bathroom. I think there's a gas station a few minutes down. Stay here, I'll be back in a few minutes, " Jennie said.

Minjiu pulled her phone out of her pocket and opened up Instagram. She scrolled through the explore page before coming up to another beautiful Instagram girl.

"How can you talk about the stupid coffee shop when you look like that? I wouldn't know what to do if I was her..."

She sighed and turned off her phone. She sat and looked at the black screen on her phone. All of a sudden, from a close distance, Minjiu heard a loud gasp.

Was that Jennie?

She quickly looked up only to see a very surprised Taehyung walking his dog coming towards the bench her and Jennie were sitting at.
