Chapter Thirty-Five: Happy for you

Sitting on my bed, I pulled a dress from my suitcase. It's the last night before we go to America. I'm so excited to visit the States. I've heard so much about them. I can't wait to see everything!

But at the moment, I was supposed to be getting ready for a club. Thus the reason for the dress.

A knock sounded at the door, making me jump. I had my shirt half off, but quickly pulled it down over my body. Making sure I was decent, I called out. "Come in!"

The door creaked open revealing a nervous looking Luke. I tilted my head to the side, raising an eyebrow at the tall boy. He swallowed, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down. Taking a few steps into the room, he let the door shut behind him.

"Luke," I stared at him, shifting uncomfortably on the mattress. We hadn't been alone in the same room since the day we'd kissed on the bus. "What are you doing?"

"I-I need to talk to you," he said hesitantly, still standing by the door. I nodded slowly. He swallowed again, stepping closer. He was only a few steps from me now. "I'm sorry about the kiss."

I blinked. That's what he wanted to say?

"Luke I--"

"No, shh," he shook his head, holding his hand up. "Let me talk, Ash."

I nodded again. He sighed, running a hand through his blonde hair.

"I had a crush on you since I was eight, Ashley," he admitted softly, his eyes focused on the space above my head. I was glad he wasn't looking at me right then otherwise he would've seen the pink blush creeping up my neck. "You were my first crush, my first kiss...I thought you were the girl for me. I seriously I thought we'd be that couple that started out as friends and ended falling in love."

I stared wide-eyed at him, my lips parted. His eyes flickered down to my face, a bright blush flooding his cheeks.

"Lu--"

"I said let me talk, Ashley," he glared at the wall above my head. I clamped my mouth closed, hoping Ashton wouldn't come looking for me anytime soon. If he walked in on Luke telling me his feelings, he'd probably hit him again. "I know it sounds stupid. I'm aware I never even had a chance. I've always known you two would end up together, I just wished I could have a shot."

I swallowed, my throat dry.

"But then something happened, Ash," he mumbled, moving to sit next to me. I didn't move as his lanky body fell next to me. Where was he going with this? "I-I met someone."

"What?" I turned to him, my eyes wide.

"I met a girl," he said, staring at his hands. I grinned, relief filled my body. "She's great, Ash. Beautiful, smart, funny. She's wild and crazy."

"Whoa, slow down," I chuckled, patting his shoulder. A smile pulled at his lips. "Who is she?"

"Her name is Vera. Vera Lovvs," he said her name with a fond smile. Oh, he was whipped. "I accidentally ran into her at a concert. I was running from some fans and ran right into her. She was a bit shocked, but she helped me find a place to hide until they left. We spent all that time just talking."

I remembered that day. Luke was missing for over an hour and we couldn't find him anywhere.

"She's from the States, but moved to Australia recently," he continued to tell me about her. I just grinned. I was so happy for him. He finally found someone. "We ran into each other at the grocery a last week and have been talking since."

"That's who you've been texting!" I exclaimed.

"Yeah," he nodded running a hand through his hair again. "Ash, I just...I really like this girl. Can we just forget about the kiss?"

"I'm happy for you, Luke," I told him. And I was.
