Chapter Forty-Two: It was a dream!

***

[Ashley]

It's been three days since I came out of my room. After the phone call with Michael, I was waiting for Ashton to call me again. I was ready to answer. I wanted to hear his voice. But he didn't call.

Sadie managed to convince me to go to our friend Dixie's birthday party tonight. I was perched on my bed, staring at my phone dejectedly while Sadie dug through my clothing.

"Don't you have any cute dresses?" She asked in frustration, throwing my favorite blue dress into the pile building up behind her. I sighed, tossing my phone onto my pillow and stood up.

"Can't I just wear these with a cute top?" I asked, picking up a pair of dark denim skinny jeans and holding them in front of my hips. Sadie tilted her head, her hand going to her chin as she studied me.

"Fine, but only if you let me do your make-up," she bargained. I clenched my jaw, knowing the only way to get out of wearing a dress would be to let her clown my face. It not that I didn't trust her or anything. Sadie just has a thing about makeup. She always wears way more than I would.

"Okay," I agreed reluctantly. "But please don't go overboard. It's just a birthday party."

"Ugh, fine!" She threw her hands in the air, walking towards my pile of clothes again. She bent over, plucking a bright red dress from the middle of the pile. "Can I borrow this?"

I looked from the small dress to her long legs and curves in doubt. She was a few inches taller than me, which meant the dress wouldn't fit her the same way.

"It's tight on me, Sade," I reminded her, furrowing my brow. She quirked an eyebrow at me, popping her hip and placing her free hand on it.

"So? It'll show off my legs really well," she said, holding the small piece of fabric against her chest.

"Sure, whatever," I replied, waving my hand as I turned to find a shirt to wear. My eyes landed on a strip of orange fabric lying under a pile of discarded clothes. Yes!

Pulling it out, I held the shirt up in front of myself. It was perfect. Not too fancy, but not too casual. The sleeves would reach my elbows, the neck line would cover me enough that I wasn't uncomfortable and the hem would fall to the tops of my thighs.

I changed quickly, not even caring if Sadie saw me. She was busy searching through my shoes. Pulling the jeans up my legs, I had to jump a little to get them over my hips and butt. I hadn't worn these jeans for a few months and wasn't sure if they would button closed. Taking a breath, I pulled them close and buttoned it.

Mental high-5!

The shirt slid on perfectly, hugging my curves in just the right way. I turned around, ready to ask Sadie what she thought. She was in the dress (not sure how she managed to get it over her hips) and was bent over pulling on a pair of black stilettos.

"Are we going to a birthday party or a club?" I asked shaking my head. She shot me a glare, her blonde curls falling across her face.

"Shut up," she mumbled as she straightened up. Her eyes scanned over my outfit and she frowned. "You're missing something."

I rolled my eyes, falling back onto the bed as she went digging again. I felt a vibration and realized my phone was ringing. Help by The Beatles blasted from my phone and I rushed to grab it.

I knew it wouldn't be Ashton, but I was hoping it would be one of the other boys. I missed them like crazy.

"Hello?" I answered the phone without looking at the caller. Please be Calum!

"Ashley Clifford?" It wasn't Calum. It was a female's voice with a British accent. I pulled the phone away from my ear. It was an unknown number.

"Um, yeah?"

"This is Melissa McGregor," The woman introduced herself before continuing. "I'm calling from Manchester University about the scholarship you applied for at the beginning of the summer."

"Wait, what? I thought the scholarship was already awarded," I replied in confusion. I could feel my heart start racing at the mention of the scholarship. It was a dream!

"Yes, it had been," Melissa acknowledged. "But the young man it was awarded to has chosen a different path."

She brushed it off so easily, like this wasn't a defining moment in my life.

"We have been over your application again and have agreed that you're brilliant talent should have a chance to blossom," I was frozen to my spot, taking in the news. What was I supposed I do? "So Miss Clifford, on behalf of those of us here at Manchester University, I would like to offer you the Film and Photography Scholarship."

_________
Well that just happened. Idek guise. It just kind of came outta nowhere.

I kind of made all of that up as I typed, so it's probably not real. Um...yeah. And I forgot about timezones, but I'm too lazy to fix it lol..

Question: do you think she'll take the scholarship or not? What do you think will happen at the party?
