School went by so fast it seemed like it was over before it started. Maybe it was because I was dreading the car ride that was ahead. This morning was tough and I've hardly said a word to him all day.

I made my way out to the car and waited for Kelton to show up. The moment he stepped out the door I saw him and watched as he made his way across the lawn. His presence alone made me feel in a better mood.

Then I noticed Rick, a guy in our class and very popular, running to catch up with Kelton. He most have yelled at him because suddenly Kelton stopped and turned around. They stood there talking for a few minutes. I would have killed to know what was being said between them. I noticed this feeling as a little bit of jealousy. Then Kelton turned back and Rick looked my way and waved. I smiled and waved, half-heartedly.

Kelton got in the car and I started it up without anyone saying a word. Once we got going Kelton looked over at me and smiled. It took everything I had not to kiss him. So I decided to start up a conversation.

"So what did Rick want?"

Kelton was still smiling but looking straight ahead.

"Oh he was just asking if we wanted to meet up in a few and play some basketball."

I thought this was odd. I've never been invited to play ball. Sports really aren't my forte. Then again it doesn't surprise me that Rick would want to know if Kelton played. By his reaction, I'm guessing that the answer is yes. I hadn't noticed he was staring at me, studying my expressions.

"So, do you want to go?"

"Sure, but I doubt I'll play...much."

I reminded him though that I had practice with Kayla later so I wouldn't be able to stay long. We went to his place so he could change.

"Hey where are we going Skye? The school is back that way."

"The school gym isn't open to the public."

"Oh so where do you guys play; a community center?"

I laughed.

"The closest community center is forty minutes away. Just wait and you'll see."

It didn't take us long to get to the farm just on the edge of town. I parked next to the barn in a small patch of gravel. It looked like we were the first to show up. Kelton quietly followed me inside the barn.

"Is this the part where you kill me?"

I have to agree when you first walk into the barn, especially this time of year, it doesn't look like much more than your typical barn full of tractors and everything you need to run the farm.

"Kelton's got jokes!"

I smirked at him.

"Up...get up."

I couldn't help but laugh at his confused look.

"Is this some kinky country thing?"

I don't think I have ever blushed so much in my entire life. I just shook my head and point to the ladder. He laughed and started climbing. I followed and was relieved to find we were the first to show up and no one had heard Kelton's comment downstairs.

"Wow this place is great. I've never seen a full court inside a barn, let alone in the loft of one."

The Loft was enclosed and barely big enough for the court and a side bench. The only way in and out was the ladder. There was a wall with a small door you had to step through. It help keep the players from running and falling down the hole.

One by one the guys slowly started to show up. I was happy to see there was an odd number of guys so I volunteered to sit out. Trust me, for everyone's sake, this was better. So I watched as they shot free throws for teams. Kelton was on the better team with Rick and some of the other school's basketball team members.

Once they got going it was actually a lot of fun to watch. Tim was yelling out all the plays, the whole time. If you were blind you would still know what was going on in this game. Caleb was knocked down and went sliding across the floor. Tim, because of his yelling, wasn't paying attention very well and kept running over people. It was amazing how they moved from one end to the other, passing the ball in such odd ways and yet someone was always there to receive it.

I was surprised to see Kelton was really good and kept up with his teammates. They had been playing for some time now and with not much air circulation in the Loft it became very hot. I looked away and by the time I looked back Kelton had taken off his shirt and was throwing it over towards me. I could have sworn I saw him wink when he did this.

"God it's hot in here! Look even Skye's burning up and he isn't even playing."

I didn't turn to look at Caleb until I heard my name mentioned. When he said this I involuntarily placed a hand on my cheek. He was right I was warm and flushed. I looked back towards Kelton. I saw a little smirk on his face that proved to me, we both knew my red face wasn't caused by the temperature of the Loft.
